Interpretations of faunal assemblages from the late Miocene Mpesida Beds in the Tugen Hills of the Central Kenyan Rift Valley have figured prominently in discussions of faunal turnover and establishment of the modern East African communities. These faunal changes have important implications for the divergence of the human lineage from the African apes ca. 8-5 Ma. While fossil material recovered...

Paleoarchean rocks from the Pilbara Craton of Western Australia provide a variety of clues to the existence of early life on Earth, such as stromatolites, putative microfossils and geochemical signatures of microbial activity. However, some of these features have also been explained by non-biological processes. Further lines of evidence are therefore required to convincingly argue for the prese...

The Moenave Formation was deposited during latest Triassic to earliest Jurassic time in a mosaic of fluvial, lacustrine, and eolian subenvironments. Ephemeral streams that flowed north-northwest (relative to modern geographic position) deposited singleand multi-storeyed trough cross-bedded sands on an open floodplain. Sheet flow deposited mainly silt across broad interchannel flats. Perennial l...

Sedimentary facies and foraminiferal assemblages of sediments sampled into seven Posidonia oceanica meadows from Western Mediterranean Sea were investigated. Six sampling sites are localised in Italy (Maratea, Ponza Island, Santa Marinella, Giglio Island, Osalla and Alghero), and one in France (Argentella, Crovani Bay, Corsica). The role of P. oceanica meadows in the sedimentary processes was i...

Lower Paleozoic metabasites of south Chah Palang are located in north of the Yazd block in Central Iran with limited distribution and are associated with Doshakh metamorphites. Metabasites divided in to two portions: metavolcanics, and metagabbro, amphibolite and metadiabase masses. Metavolcanic with basaltic composition are presented by foliation and vesicles filled by calcite. Amphibole, plag...

Perlman, M., and Reisner, S. H. (1973). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 48, 627. Asymmetric crying facies and congenital anomalies. The frequency of hypoplasia of the depressor anguli oris muscle in a newborn population was 41 in 6360 (1 in 155). No adverse factors were noted in the obstetric background of affected infants and the pathogenesis of the lesion is not clear. The incidence of asso...

Geostatistics have become the dominant tool for probabilistic estimation of properties of heterogeneous formations at points where data are not available. Ordinary kriging, the starting point in development of other geostatistical techniques, has a number of serious limitations, chief among which is the intrinsic hypothesis of the (second order) stationarity of the underlying random field. Atte...

A series of thirteen persons with bilateral femoral hypoplasia are presented. Six of these had facial features compatible with a diagnosis of femoral hypoplasia-unusual facies syndrome. One was attributable to severe fetal constraint secondary to oligohydramnios, three were associated with maternal diabetes, and two were idiopathic. All thirteen cases were sporadic.
