Conclusions While statistical analysis did not show any statistical difference, all subjects in the study reported some level of relief of symptoms during the magnetic insole phase of therapy. This was further supported by anecdotal evidence of all subjects wishing to continue using the magnetic insoles after the study had finished. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of a necrotoxigenic Escherichia coli strain isolated from a patient following a very rapidly evolving, lethal necrotizing fasciitis.
Objectives: To investigate the effect of conservative treatment of patients, diagnosed with plantar fasciitis (PF) in a specialist rheumatology clinic, and uncover
Necrotizing fasciitis is a rapidly progressive soft-tissue infection associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Necrotizing fasciitis is similar to invasive burn wound infection in that diagnosis requires histologic examination of affected tissue and treatment requires aggressive surgical debridement followed by skin autograft. Transfer to a burn center facilitates the management of n...
Introduction: Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of plantar heel pain, accounting for almost 15% of all foot-related complaints. Arch supports and heel pads are the main foot orthotics to manage the heel pain. Despite the high prevalence of plantar fasciitis, information about the effectiveness of different orthoses is still scarce. This study was aimed to compare the effectiveness of u...
Immune suppression is a recognized risk factor for necrotizing fasciitis. In patients with hematological malignancies, a profoundly immunocompromised group, the predominant causative organisms are Gram negative. Clinical presentation and outcomes in these patients are similar to the immunocompetent. The Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotizing Fasciitis score is not reliable for risk stratific...
We report the first case of necrotizing fasciitis due to the uncommon Gram-negative pathogen Sphingobacterium multivorum in an immunocompromised patient, who presented with septic shock. This case adds necrotizing fasciitis to the spectrum of S. multivorum-related infections and highlights the emergence of Gram-negative bacteria in severe soft tissue infections.
A case report of an unusual case of nodular fasciitis in the orbit presenting with unilateral proptosis is described, and the radiological features are outlined. The histological features are discussed and the benign nature of the lesion stressed. Nodular fasciitis arising in the orbit and presenting as unilateral proptosis has not previously been reported in the literature.
A 41 year old man presented with pain and numbness affecting the lateral aspect of his foot after a steroid injection for plantar fasciitis. Examination confirmed numbness and motor impairment of the lateral plantar nerve. The findings were confirmed by electromyographic studies. The anatomy of the lateral plantar nerve and correct technique for injection to treat plantar fasciitis are discussed.
