Symptomatic intraventricular cysticerci are said to respond poorly to the anticestodial agent praziquantel. A case is reported of rapid regression of a large cyst of the fourth ventricle after oral praziquantel, avoiding the need for surgery.

Encephaloceles involving only the herniated fourth ventricle are exceedingly rare. We report a case of such a cranial malformation and review the literature regarding these malformations and their potential embryological derailment.

Skew deviation is a vertical strabismus caused by a supranuclear lesion in the posterior fossa. Because skew deviation may clinically mimic trochlear nerve palsy, it is sometimes difficult to differentiate the 2 conditions. In this review we compare the clinical presentations of skew deviation and trochlear nerve palsy and examine the pathophysiology that underlies skew deviation. We then descr...

(non strict second order dominance) iff Eu(A) ≥ Eu(B) for all utility functions u on [a, b] such that u′ ≥ 0 and u′′ ≤ 0 . 3. Second order dominance and stop loss. Show that (1) holds (i) iff E(B−d)− ≥ E(A− d)− for all d ∈ [a, b] or (ii) iff Emin(d,B) ≤ Emin(d,A) for all d ∈ [a, b]. 4. Utility and ARA. (a) Show that there exists a unique utility function u on R with a given ARA ρ(x) and such th...

It is demonstrated, by means of analogue electronic simulation and theoretically, that external noise can markedly change the character of the response of a nonlinear system to a low-frequency periodic field. In general, noise of sufficient intensity linearises the response. For certain parameter ranges in particular cases, however, an increase in the noise intensity can sometime have the oppos...

The authors report a case of traumatic dislocation of both interphalangeal joints of the ring finger in a 29-year-old male patient, an injury sustained while playing soccer football. Reduction was achieved by closed manipulation, followed by splinting in the "intrinsic plus" position. The joints were stable but had not yet fully recovered their mobility at six months follow-up. The authors surv...

Among other things, sexual selection theory posits that in species with limited male parental investment, males should evolve biological mechanisms to competitively dominate or otherwise compete with one another. It is unclear whether such proposed mechanisms would influence status hierarchies in small human groups. We report the results of a study investigating possible effects of prenatal (in...

Prohibitive voice behaviors are employees' expressions of concern about practices, incidents, or behaviors that may potentially harm the organization. In this study, we examined a potential biological correlate of prohibitive voice: prenatal exposure to testosterone. In a sample of bankers, we used 2D:4D (i.e., the ratio of the length of the index finger to the length of the ring finger) as a m...
