Au nanoparticles decorated with mononuclear Ti-oxo units dispersed in silica clusters were formed by activating Au nanoparticles (~2 nm) stabilized with Ti- and amine-functionalized siloxane oligomers. These Au nanoparticles were active catalysts for selective oxidation of propane to acetone, and the activity increased with increasing Ti density.

A new method for the preparation of well-defined functionalized mesoporous SBA-15 has been developed by a one-step co-condensation method using trimethallylsilanes as organosilane sources. This new method enables the incorporation of various bulky organic functional groups with long alkyl chain tethers into the mesoporous silica network.

Incorporation of nanoparticles composed of surface-functionalized fumed silica (FS) or native colloidal silica (CS) into a nanostructured block copolymer yields hybrid nanocomposites whose mechanical properties can be tuned by nanoparticle concentration and surface chemistry. In this work, dynamic rheology is used to probe the frequency and thermal responses of nanocomposites composed of a symm...

N-Propylsalicylaldimino-functionalized SBA-15 mesoporous silica was prepared, characterized and used as an adsorbent for heavy metal ions. The organic-inorganic hybrid material was obtained using successive grafting procedures of SBA-15 silica with 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane and salicylaldehyde, respectively. For comparison an amorphous silica gel was functionalized using the same procedure....

The efficient synthesis of all-acrylic, film-forming, core-shell colloidal nanocomposite particles via in situ aqueous emulsion copolymerization of methyl methacrylate with n-butyl acrylate in the presence of a glycerol-functionalized ultrafine silica sol using a cationic azo initiator at 60 °C is reported. It is shown that relatively monodisperse nanocomposite particles can be produced with ty...

Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) have garnered a great deal of attention as potential carriers for therapeutic payloads. Here, we report a pH-responsive drug-carrier based on chondroitin sulfate functionalized mesostructured silica nanoparticles (NMChS-MSNs) ie, the amidation between NMChS macromer and amino group functionalized MSNs. The prepared nanoparticles were characterized using dy...

bis-(l-tyrosinato)copper(ii) was reacted with 3-(chloropropyl)-trimethoxysilane functionalized silica that has infused magnetite to yield a magnetically separable catalyst in which the copper carboxylate is covalently linked to the silica matrix through the silane linkage. the immobilized catalyst has been characterized by spectroscopic studies (such as ft-ir, epr, magnetic measurement, sem) an...

A supramolecular assembly for visible light responsive release of cargo molecules is presented. Sulforhodamine 101 was loaded inside the mesopores of mercaptopropyl-functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MP-MSN) and entrapped by mercaptopropyl-coordinated Ru(bpy)(2)(PPh(3))-moieties. Irradiation with visible light triggers the release of capping species and loaded molecules.

Metal nanoshells consists of a dielectric core surrounded by a thin noble metal shell, possess unique optical properties that render nanoshells attractive for use in different technologies. This paper reports a facile method for growth of small gold nanoparticles on the functionalized surface of larger silica nanoparticles. Mono-dispersed silica particles and gold nanoparticles were prepared by...
