CDF and Granite: A Comparison Master's Project Report Lorna Ellis May 2004 Abstract Because large scientific datasets are often stored in files, efficient data analysis depends on efficient I/O and data manipulation tools. The Granite Scientific Database System is a system that incorporates database methodology and spatial semantics to support retrieval and visualization of scientific data. CDF...

In this study, production possibility of glass and glass-ceramic produced from granite was investigated. The composition of granite based glass bath mixture was 50 wt% granite, 25 wt% dolomite and 25 wt% sodium carbonate. Composition that was grounded and mixed in a ball mill for 2 h was melted at 1500 ◦C for 1 h. Glass samples were heat treated for crystallization to produce glass-ceramic mate...

In recent years, there has been a marked increase in the amount of municipal waste generated Poland. context circular economy assumptions, key is availability technologies that would make it possible to safely process and reuse waste, especially when difficult manage. One such direction thermal treatment. 2020, 21.6% all was subjected this process. Consequently, ash significant (approximately 2...

Pecoits et al. (Reports, 29 June 2012, p. 1693) describe bilaterian trace fossils and assign them an Ediacaran age based on the age of a granite interpreted as intrusive. We argue that the granite is not intrusive but in fact represents the basement of the sedimentary succession. Moreover, we show that identical trace fossils occur in nearby Carboniferous-Permian glacigenic rocks.

Co-processing of hazardous wastes in cement kilns have for decades been thought to cause increased emissions of PCDD/PCDFs--a perception that has been evaluated in this study. Hundreds of PCDD/PCDF measurements conducted by the cement industry and others in the last few years, on emissions and solid materials, as well as recent test burns with hazardous wastes in developing countries do not sup...

In the present study, plate-impact experiments are employed to better understand the stress threshold for inelasticity in Westerly granite. The experiments are designed to obtain the Hugoniot Elastic Limit (HEL) as well as spall strength following shock-induced compression in the Westerly granite samples. The HEL for Westerly granite is estimated to be in the range 3.2 to 3.5 GPa, while the spa...

The Xihuashan granitic complex (southern China) is mainly composed of coarse-grained porphyritic biotite granite (G–a), medium-grained porphyritic biotite granite (G–b), and mediumto fine-grained porphyritic biotite granite (G–c). The G–a granite is characterized by monazite-(Ce) and xenotime-(Y), in addition to commonly observed zircon and uranoan thorite. In the G–b and G–c intrusive units, m...

45 granite crushers and 45 age and smoking matched referents underwent pulmonary function tests in 1976 and 1988. On average, the granite crushers at follow up had worked for 22 years, were 52 (range 36-78) years old, and had inhaled a cumulated amount of 7 mg of silica in the respirable dust fraction. Between 1976 and 1988 the average concentration of respirable quartz in air was 0.16 mg/m3 (t...
