Ultrasensitive room temperature real-time NO₂ sensors are highly desirable due to potential threats on environmental security and personal respiratory. Traditional NO₂ gas sensors with highly operated temperatures (200-600 °C) and limited reversibility are mainly constructed from semiconducting oxide-deposited ceramic tubes or inter-finger probes. Herein, we report the functionalized graphene n...

Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is one of the most promising growth techniques to scale up the production of monolayer graphene. At present, there are intense efforts to control the orientation of graphene grains during CVD, motivated by the fact that there is a higher probability for oriented grains to achieve seamless merging, forming a large single crystal. However, it is still challenging t...

Graphene materials are very popular in the field of biosensing owing to their distinctive characteristics. However, oxygen-containing groups are known to exist intrinsically in graphene-related materials. These groups influence the electrochemical properties of graphene materials and therefore affect the sensing performance of graphene-based electrodes when used to detect redox active biomarker...

An aluminum metal, both native and with a very thin oxide film, was investigated as an anode for aluminum-ion batteries. Investigations were carried out in an acidic ionic liquid electrolyte, composed of AlCl3 in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([EMIm]Cl), with β-MnO2/C as a cathode. The battery based on Al metal with a very thin oxide film showed high capacity and stable surface corrosion.

Low-temperature (~1073 K) formation of graphene was performed on Si substrates by using an ultrathin (2 nm) Ni layer deposited on a 3C-SiC thin film heteroepitaxially grown on a Si substrate. Angle-resolved, synchrotron-radiation X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (SR-XPS) results show that the stacking order is, from the surface to the bulk, Ni carbides(Ni3C/NiCx)/graphene/Ni/Ni silicides (Ni2Si...

We present a general study on a high performance supercapacitor based on intercalated reduced graphene oxide with carbon black nanoparticles. Graphene oxide sheets were synthesized by oxidation and exfoliation of natural graphite and were reduced using hydroiodic acid in the presence of carbon black nanoparticles. Graphene paper was fabricated by one-step procedure via simultaneous reducing and...

We present a strategy to identify energetically favourable oxide structures in thin-film geometries. Thin-film candidate configurations are constructed from a pool of sublattices of stable and metastable oxide bulk phases. Favourable stoichiometric compositions and atomic geometries are identified by comparing total and Gibbs free energies of the relaxed configurations. This strategy is illustr...

Gallium doped zinc oxide, GZO, thin films have been deposited onto glass substrate by rf magnetron sputtering at various substrate temperatures. The electrical and optical properties of the thin films have been studied as a function of substrate temperature. X-ray diffraction was used in order to investigate thin film structures. The thin film structure was stabilised by heating the samples in ...
