Activity of Ho, the yeast mating switch endonuclease, is restricted to a narrow time window of the cell cycle. Ho is unstable and despite being a nuclear protein is exported to the cytoplasm for proteasomal degradation. We report here the molecular basis for the highly efficient nuclear import of Ho and the relation between its short half-life and passage through the nucleus. The Ho nuclear imp...
OBJECTIVE Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), the rate-limiting enzyme in heme catabolism, plays a protective role in the vascular system. HO-1 induction inhibits cytokine production in macrophages. Antioxidants induce HO-1 expression in various cell types. Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA), a thiol-containing dietary antioxidant, exhibits protective effects in vascular disease and induces anti-inflammatory effects...
The HO(3) and HO(4) polyoxide radicals have attracted some attention due to their potential role in ozone chemistry. Experimentally, the geometrical structure of HO(3) is known whereas that of HO(4) is not. Moreover, the existence of the latter radical has been questioned. Theoretical calculations on the two species have been reported before, showing important structural differences depending o...
Objective: This study aimed to investigate effects of heme oxygenase -1 (HO-1) at different concentrations on intestinal barrier function. Methods: Male SD rats (n=50) were assigned into lactococcus lactis expressing HO-1 (LL-HO-1) group (HO group; n=10), Gln group (n=10), lactococcus lactis group (LL group; n=10), zinc protoporphyrin (ZnPP group; n=10) and PBS group (n=10) randomly. Results: W...
Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), a cytoprotective, pro-angiogenic and anti-inflammatory enzyme, is strongly induced in injured tissues. Our aim was to clarify its role in cutaneous wound healing. In wild type mice, maximal expression of HO-1 in the skin was observed on the 2(nd) and 3(rd) days after wounding. Inhibition of HO-1 by tin protoporphyrin-IX resulted in retardation of wound closure. Healing ...
Because heme oxygenase (HO) is the rate limiting enzyme in the degradation of the pro-oxidant hemin/heme from blood, here we investigated the contribution of the inducible HO-1 to early brain injury produced by intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH). We found that after induction of ICH, HO-1 proteins were highly detectable in the peri-ICH region predominantly in microglia/macrophages and endothelial ...
Heme oxygenase (HO)-1, the inducible isoform of heme oxygenase, is a cytoprotective enzyme that plays a central role in the defense against oxidative and inflammatory insults in the lung. HO-1 catalyzes the degradation of heme, a potent oxidant, into biliverdin, iron, and carbon monoxide (CO). These downstream products of heme catabolism have recently been found to mediate the antioxidant, anti...
Following the growing urbanization, choosing and providing housing has become one of the mos t important issues for planners as well as people. Developing a comprehensive program of housing needs complete identification and deep analysis of widespread dimensions of housing and factors affecting them. In the meantime, addressing housing indices, as the key planning tool forming its main thrus t...
A novel 2-D coordination polymer constructed from high nuclearity nanosized Ho48 clusters was synthesised and structurally characterized using single-crystal X-ray analysis. The Ho48 cluster core with a charming waist drum-like structure was templated by CO3(2-) ions, and bridged by Ho-N bonds to get a 2-D coordination polymer.
T his feature explores the operation of individual markets. Patterns of behavior in markets for specific goods and services offer lessons about the determinants and effects of supply and demand, market structure, strategic behavior, and government regulation. Suggestions for future columns and comments on past ones should be sent to James R. Hines Jr., c/o Journal of Economic Perspectives, Depa...
