Bilateral congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a rare birth defect, with a poor prognosis. We describe a case of bilateral CDH discovered while repairing the right sided CDH. Diaphragmatic defect was repaired and a silo was applied on the abdominal wound to avoid abdominal compartment syndrome. The patient however died postoperatively due to severe pulmonary hypertension.

Recent demands for the production of lignocellulose biofuels boosted research on cellulase. Hydrolysis efficiency and production cost of cellulase are two bottlenecks in "biomass to biofuels" process. The Trichoderma cellulase mixture is one of the most commonly used enzymes for cellulosic hydrolysis. During hydrolytic process cellobiose accumulation causes feedback inhibition against most cell...

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is one of the most common major congenital anomalies. In utero visceral organ herniation into thoracic cavity can result in lung hypoplasia and pulmonary hypertension may ensue. Post-natal mortality rates isolated CDH remain high reaching up to 80% severe cases. Several prenatal predictors morbidity have been proposed. Reliable predictive markers aid clinic...

A new paradigm for cellulose depolymerization by fungi focuses on an oxidative mechanism involving cellobiose dehydrogenases (CDH) and copper-dependent lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMO); however, mechanistic studies have been hampered by the lack of structural information regarding CDH. CDH contains a haem-binding cytochrome (CYT) connected via a flexible linker to a flavin-dependent d...

Background—Lung hypoplasia and persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn limit survival in congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). Unlike other diseases resulting in persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, infants with CDH are refractory to inhaled nitric oxide (NO). Nitric oxide mediates pulmonary vasodilatation at birth in part via cyclic GMP production. Phosphodiesterase type...

OBJECTIVE To assess the value of antenatally determined observed to expected fetal lung area to head circumference ratio (LHR) in the prediction of postnatal survival in isolated, congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). METHODS Two groups of fetuses were examined. The first group included 650 normal fetuses at 12-32 weeks' gestation, and the data collected were used to establish a normal range...

Background & Aims: Esophageal atresia (EA) is a congenital malformation first described by Durston in 1670 and occurs in 1/2500 births. Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is an anatomic anomaly which causes herniation of the abdominal organs into the chest due to incomplete closure of pleuroperitoneal membrane. We preformed this research due to lack of a comprehensive study on growth and ...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the impact of the presence of a congenital heart anomaly (CHA) and its potential contribution to morbidity and mortality in infants with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). METHODS In this retrospective cohort study, prenatal and postnatal data of all newborns diagnosed with CDH between January 2004 and December 2012 in a single center were reviewed. Cases were classi...
