The tumor cell proliferation, migration and invasion were influenced by the interaction between the cancer cells and their microenvironment. In current study, we established two pairs of the primary fibroblast cultures from colorectal adenocarcinoma tissues and the normal counterparts and identified 227 proteins in the colonic fibroblast secretomes; half of these proteins were novel. The mass s...
Ulcerative colitis has long been linked with an increased risk for colonic adenocarcinoma, whereas Crohn's disease (CD) has recently been reported to pose a similar increased risk. We report a 33-year-old healthy female with no family history who presented with abdominal pain and a colon mass. Histopathology revealed a moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma extending through the muscularis pr...
Angiomyolipoma is a benign tumor most commonly arising in the kidney. Very few cases have been reported to be located in the small intestine. Here we report the first case located in the jejunum in a patient who was diagnosed with a colonic adenocarcinoma. In the preoperative evaluation this benign lesion was thought it might represent a metastatic nodule.
AIMS AND BACKGROUND To improve understanding of the relationship between schistosome-related enteropathy and colorectal carcinoma with particular focus on endoscopic findings and clinicopathological characteristics of colonic schistosomiasis. MATERIALS AND METHODS All cases of intestinal schistosomiasis diagnosed at West China Hospital, Chengdu, China, between October 2006 and October 2012 we...
Connexins (Cxs) are critical for normal tissue development, differentiation, and cell proliferation. Normal expression and function of Cxs are considered to play a role in tumor suppression, but abnormal localization and abnormally increased expression of Cxs have been found in a variety of carcinomas. Of the Cx family, Cx43 is a most prevalent member and has been known as a downstream target o...
We assessed the feasibility of clonality analysis with human androgen receptor gene polymerase chain reaction in terms of the sensitivity and specificity for normal and cancerous colonic tissues taken from fourteen informative cases selected from 22 women with colonic adenocarcinoma. Ten crypts microdissected from each 10-microm-thick cryostat sections and whole tissues were used as samples. DN...
Cancer cells differ from normal cells in many aspects, including hyperproliferation and loss of differentiation. Recent research has focused on the role of transcription factors in regulating abnormal cell growth. Gut-enriched Krüppel-like factor (GKLF) is a newly identified eukaryotic zinc finger protein expressed extensively in the gastrointestinal tract. In the current study, we demonstrated...
The present study aimed to investigate polypoid colonic metastases from gastric stump carcinoma by performing a retrospective analysis of the clinical data of a patient with such a diagnosis, and by discussing other previous case studies from the literature. The patient of the present study was an 80-year-old male who had undergone a gastrectomy 48 years previously for a benign perforated gastr...
