The hydrodynamics of collisions and mergers of main-sequence stars is discussed in the light of recent 3-D calculations using the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method. Theoretical models for the formation of blue stragglers are reviewed in the context of recent comparisons between the observed properties of blue stragglers in dense globular clusters and the predictions of those models.

A multiphase extension of the δ-plus-SPH (smoothed particle hydrodynamics) model is developed for modeling non-Newtonian flow. modified numerical diffusive term and special shifting treatment near phase interface are introduced to original improve accuracy stability weakly incompressible SPH model. The Herschel–Bulkley used describe fluids. sub-particle added in momentum equation based on a lar...

In this paper we discuss the treatment of discontinuities in Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) simulations. In particular we discuss the difference between integral and differential representations of the fluid equations in an SPH context and how this relates to the formulation of dissipative terms for the capture of shocks and other discontinuities. This has important implications for many...

It is still difficult for traditional methods to simulate fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems which are increasingly used to model cardiovascular system, and human organism. This contribution develops a new numerical method to analyze FSI, based on smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH). The Lagrangian and meshless characteristics of SPH presents distinct features to devise the method by ...

Smoothed particle hydrodynamics is a completely mesh-free method to simulate fluid flow. Rather than representing the physical variables on a fixed grid, the fluid is represented by freely moving interpolation centers (”particles”). Apart from their position and velocity these particles carry information about the physical quantities of the considered fluid, such as temperature, composition, ch...
