Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts are the infective stages responsible for transmission and survival of the organism in the environment. In the present work we show that the oocyst wall, far from being a static structure, is able to incorporate antigens by a mechanism involving vesicle fusion with the wall, and the incorporation of the antigen to the outer oocyst wall. Using immunoelectron microsc...

Barium (Ba) incorporated in the calcite of many foraminiferal species is proportional to the concentration of Ba in seawater. Since the open ocean concentration of Ba closely follows seawater alkalinity, foraminiferal Ba /Ca can be used to reconstruct the latter. Alternatively, Ba /Ca from foraminiferal shells can also be used to reconstruct salinity in coastal settings in which seawater Ba con...

The wall-covered bacteria Micrococcus lysodeikticus, Bacillus megaterium, and Proteus mirabilis incorporated exogenous cholesterol into their cytoplasmic membrane in quantities resembling those incorporated by sterol-nonrequiring mycoplasmas. Cholesterol incorporation into the outer membrane of P. mirabilis was much more restricted than into the cytoplasmic membrane.

Yeast biomass as well as biomass enriched with trace minerals have been demonstrated to be useful in improving animal health and growth performance. In this work, process for the production of Saccharomyces cerevisiae biomass enriched with manganese, a microelement with antioxidant properties in the form of high bioavailable Mn-protein complex, has been studied. Th e infl uences of media compos...

Several enzymatic reactions are known to utilize ribonucleoside triphosphates for incorporation of ribonucleotides into ribonucleic acid polymers. Two of these reactions have been well characterized. In one, cytidine 5’-phosphate and adenosine 5’-phosphate are added to the nucleoside terminal end of soluble RNA, forming an amino acid acceptor RNA terminated by the trinucleotide sequence, pCpCpA...

1. The nucleic acid metabolism in the pyridoxine-deficient rat has been investigated through studies on the incorporation ofradioactivity from various isotopically labelled compounds into liver and spleen DNA and RNA. 2. In pyridoxine deficiency, the incorporation ofradioactivity from sodium [14C]formate was apparently increased. The magnitude of this effect on incorporation into liver RNA and ...

The aim of the paper was to study the effect of carbisocaine, a new local anesthetic with high liposolubility on incorporation of 32P into individual and total phospholipids and to compare its effect with that of other local anesthetics (procaine, lidocaine, cinchocaine, heptacaine). Carbisocaine decreased 32P incorporation into neutral phospholipids and increased the incorporation into acid ph...
