Polyacrylamide (PA) based hydrogels are used in several applications including polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and sensing devices. Homogeneous and compact PA films can be prepared based on chemical or photopolymerization processes. However, the accurate and reproducible coating of substrates with nanohydrogel patterns is challenging due to the in situ polymerization and deposition requireme...

A capacitive acoustic resonator developed by combining three-dimensional (3D) printing and two-dimensional (2D) printed electronics technique is described. During this work, a patterned bottom structure with rigid backplate and cavity is fabricated directly by a 3D printing method, and then a direct write inkjet printing technique has been employed to print a silver conductive layer. A novel ap...

Inkjet printing is a powerful microfabrication tool that has been applied to the manufacture of ceramic components. To successfully fabricate ceramic objects a number of conditions must be satisfied concerning fluid properties and drop placement accuracy. It has been proposed that fluids are printable within the bounds 1 <Z < 10 (where Z is the inverse of the Ohnesorge number) and these limits ...

In this Progress Report we provide an update on recent developments in inkjet printing technology and its applications, which include organic thin-film transistors, light-emitting diodes, solar cells, conductive structures, memory devices, sensors, and biological/pharmaceutical tasks. Various classes of materials and device types are in turn examined and an opinion is offered about the nature o...

A water-based conducting ink, composed of well dispersed nano-silver particles, has been successfully inkjet printed using an ordinary commercial printer. The silver colloids with diameter around 50 nm were dispersed in a water and diethylene glycol cosolvent system. The 25 wt% silver ink had a viscosity of about 7.4 cP and surface tension of 33.5 dyn cm(-1) at 20 degrees C, which is appropriat...

Electrohydrodynamic inkjet printing of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) is de-monstrated to form complex geometric devices with high resolution (line width ≈ 5 mm). Both planar and highly curved surfaces (radius of curvature ≈ 60 mm) can be used as substrates. Demonstrations of counterfeit coin recognition using RGO patterns and all-printed RGO transistors suggest substantial promise for applicatio...

Bonding of polymer-based microfluidics to polymer substrates still poses a challenge for Lab-On-a-Chip applications. Especially, when sensing elements are incorporated, patterned deposition of adhesives with curing at ambient conditions is required. Here, we demonstrate a fabrication method for fully printed microfluidic systems with sensing elements using inkjet and stereolithographic 3D-print...

Cu2ZnSn(S, Se)4-based solar cells with total area (0.5 cm2) power conversion efficiency of 6.4% are demonstrated from thin film absorbers processed by inkjet printing technology of Cu-Zn-Sn-S precursor ink followed by selenization. The device performance is limited by the low fill factor, which is due to the high series resistance.

We reported fabrication of patterned flexible MECs using inkjet printing. The strategy can effectively simplify the fabrication process, thus reducing the cost. The obtained flexible MECs exhibited a very high specific capacitance of 6.4 mF cm(-2), and revealed long-term cycling stability.
