In this paper, we study the existence of a skew Killing spinor (see the definition below) on 2 and 3-dimensional Riemannian spin manifolds. We establish the integrability conditions and prove that these spinor fields correspond to twistor spinors in the two dimensional case while, up to a conformal change of the metric, they correspond to parallel spinors in the three dimensional case.

The incidence of sibling cannibalism in clutches of Harmonia axyridis infected by the male-killing Spiroplasma was compared with that in uninfected clutches, and the way in which fitness compensation was realized by sibling cannibalism was investigated. Primarily the rate of sibling cannibalism was determined by the hatching rate as all unviable eggs were consumed both in infected and uninfecte...

Justifying or not justifying killing in defense of property has always been a challenging issue for jurists Western jurists have studied such killing in the light of the principle of proportionalit. . That is,whether there is a balance and proportionality between defensive action - killing aggressor- and aggressive action - attacking property – or not. based on this principle, some believe that...

Despite illegal killing (poaching) being the major cause of death among large carnivores globally, little is known about effect implementing lethal management policies on poaching. Two opposing hypotheses have been proposed in literature: may decrease poaching incidence (killing for tolerance) or increase it (facilitated killing). Here, we report a test two opposed that (reported and unreported...

Antigen-specific killing ability of effector CD8+ T cells is critical for protective immunity against infection. Here, we describe in vivo cytotoxic T cell assay to examine effector function of antigen-specific CD8+ T cells. Mice infected with Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) expressing chicken ovalbumin as a model antigen mount ovalbumin-specific CD8+ T cell responses. Effector CD8+ T...

Tumor cell killing utilizing hematoporphyrin derivative (HPD) phototherapy was studied in a murine tumor model to assess the relative importance of intratumor temperature in causing the tumoricidal effect. Temperature measurements and tumor killing without HPD strongly suggest that HPD phototherapy as reported previously by other workers has at least partially a hyperthermic effect. Also, it is...

We have constructed a synthetic ecosystem consisting of two Escherichia coli populations, which communicate bi-directionally through quorum sensing and regulate each other's gene expression and survival via engineered gene circuits. Our synthetic ecosystem resembles canonical predator-prey systems in terms of logic and dynamics. The predator cells kill the prey by inducing expression of a kille...

Thymidine incorporation by HEp-2 cells was reduced 10-fold by 2.5 mM hydroxyurea (HU). The DNA in lysates from untreated cells sedimented through alkaline sucrose gradients as an aggregate plus a smaller component which could be chased into the aggregate. Only small DNA (ca. 47 S) was synthesized in nuclei when cells were incubated with HU. HU inhibition was reversible up-to 24 hr. Removal of i...
