We introduce a new variational method for finding periodic orbits of flows and spatio-temporally periodic solutions of classical field theories, a generalization of the Newton method to a flow in the space of loops. The feasibility of the method is demonstrated by its application to several dynamical systems, including the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky system.
We analyze the discretization of the periodic initial value problem for Kuramoto–Sivashinsky type equations with Burgers nonlinearity by implicit– explicit backward difference formula (BDF) methods, establish stability and derive optimal order error estimates. We also study discretization in space by spectral methods.
We prove a convergence result for the standard Kuramoto model with all-to-all coupling. Specifically, we show that the critical coupling strength associated with the onset of completely phase-locked behaviour converges in probability as the number of oscillators tends to infinity.
