Introduction: Lead is the major toxicant found in industrial effluent that can adversely affect environment and human health. Conventional methods for the removal of this metal from waste waters are often cost prohibitive. This study was conducted to investigate the effect ostrich feathers modified by hydrogen peroxide on lead removal from waste water. Methods: In this descriptive and practical...

Extensive research has been devoted to economic production quantity (EPQ) problem. However, little atten-tion has been paid to problems where depreciation cost and process quality cost must be considered, simulta-neously. In this paper, we consider the economic production quantity model of minimizing the annual total cost subject to depreciation cost and process quality cost, where depreciation...

Software crashes due to its increasing complexity. Once a crash happens, a crash report could be sent to software developers for investigation upon user permission. Because of the large number of crash reports and limited information, debugging for crashes is often a tedious and labor-intensive task. In this paper, we propose a statistical fault localization framework to help developers locate ...

Probabilistic model; Inventory; Varying order cost; Holding cost; Lead-time demand; Uniform distribution; Safety stock Abstract This paper discusses the probabilistic backorders inventory system when the order cost unit is a function of the order quantity. Our objective is to minimize the expected annual total cost under a restriction on the expected annual holding cost when the lead time deman...

We study a stochastic lead-time problem motivated by real world global shipping data. Replenishment quantities are generated by the Order-Up-To policy which aims to achieve a strategic availability target. We show that unlike the constant lead-time case, minimum safety stocks do not always lead to minimum costs under stochastic lead-times.

As they involve expectations about the future and long lead times for planning and construction, the evolution of investment projects is usually complex and volatile. This paper analyses an important aspect of this volatility by studying the nature of the investment process, from the initial bright idea to the final construction and operational phase of a project. We refer to this process as th...

The stochastic inventory models analyzed in this paper explore the problem of lead time associated with setup cost reductions for the continuous review and periodic review inventory models. For these two models with a mixture of backorders and lost sales, we respectively assume that their mean and variance of the lead time demand and protection interval (i.e., lead time plus review period) dema...
