The role of rare missense variants in disease causation remains difficult to interpret. We explore whether the clustering pattern of rare missense variants (MAF < 0.01) in a protein is associated with mode of inheritance. Mutations in genes associated with autosomal dominant (AD) conditions are known to result in either loss or gain of function, whereas mutations in genes associated with autoso...
Salivary myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a key mediator of the oral immune system, acting as an enzyme that utilises H2O2 to generate molecules with high bactericidal activity. While MPO determination in plasma quite common, use saliva still rare. Our systematic review was designed answer question “Are salivary levels altered patients systemic diseases?”. Following inclusion and exclusion criteria, we...
Autoimmune liver disease is a heterogeneous group of diseases in which the body’s immune cells and antibodies are directed against its own components tissue. The main from this are: autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), sclerosing cholangitis. Most often there classical monovariants disease, but some cases, manifestations two forms observed at once. term “overlap syndro...
Using in vitro data in human cell lines, several research groups have investigated changes in gene expression in cellular systems following exposure to extremely low frequency (ELF) and radiofrequency (RF) electromagnetic fields (EMF). For ELF EMF, we obtained five studies with complete microarray data and three studies with only lists of significantly altered genes. Likewise, for RF EMF, we ob...
Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and hemagglutination methods were compared using mycobacterial glycolipids as antigens. Both methods were found to have equivalent specificity and sensitivity in detecting mycobacterial diseases. Both tests had 96% specificity; the sensitivity of the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was 86%, and that of the hemagglutination test was 88.6%.
Clonorchis sinensis is still a common parasite in South Korea. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed to replace the usual intradermal test, and its performance in an area of endemicity was evaluated. From 2004 to 2006, 182 adults were included. The patient group consisted of 51 adults; 43 patients showed fluke eggs by microscopy, and 8 had their disease diagnosed clinically...
lidocaine (lc) is a local anesthetic agent. the aim of this study was to prolong the anesthetic effect of this drug in the oral cavity in the treatment of oral mucositis. films of lc were prepared with three different molecular weights (mw) of chitosan in three different concentrations (1-3%) and were then cross-linked by solvent casting evaporation method with tripolyphosphate penta sodium sal...
materials and methods in this descriptive study, 2988 stool samples of patients with acute gastroenteritis were collected from children’s hospitals of 5 main cities of iran. the samples were sent in frozen condition to pediatric infection research center in tehran and stored at -70°c. elisa test was performed for detection of rotavirus antigens. the mean age of study population was 1 to 5 years...
