We present a case report of an 80-year-old woman with volume overload thought initially to be secondary to heart failure, but determined to be amiodarone-induced acute and chronic liver injury leading to submassive necrosis and bridging fibrosis consistent with early cirrhosis. Her histopathology was uniquely absent of steatosis and phospholipidosis, which are commonly seen in AIC.

Introduction Fatty liver diseases or steatosis are increasingly common as a result of the obesity and diabetes epidemics. Asymptomatic, it can often lead to more severe diseases like fibrosis or cancer (1). The gold standard method to detect steatosis is the visual histopathological analysis of a liver sample collected by biopsy but the procedure is both invasive and painful and presents some r...

BACKGROUND Many clinical trials and natural history studies on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) rely heavily on liver histology to define their endpoints. There are many indications that the liver is not uniformly involved in NAFLD thus sampling error is a major concern. This study aims to evaluate the uniformity of various histologic features in ...

Herein, we describe two patients who underwent liver transplantation with the clinical diagnosis of hepatic failure and cryptogenic cirrhosis; histopathology of the explanted hepatectomy specimen revealed congenital hepatic fibrosis. To the best of our knowledge, coexistence of hepatic failure and cirrhosis in congenital hepatic fibrosis, have not yet been reported in the English literature.

The tongue is a rare site of localization of cystic echinococcosis. We report a 3-year-old patient with cystic echinococcosis of the tongue demonstrated by histopathology. The cyst of the tongue was surgically removed. The tongue lesion led us to find additional liver and lung cystic lesions that were successfully treated with albendazole therapy.

BACKGROUND Portal vein ligation (PVL) combined with in situ splitting (ISS) has been shown to induce remarkable liver regeneration in patients. The purpose of this study was to establish a model of PVL+ISS in rats for exploring the possible mechanisms of liver regeneration using these techniques. MATERIALS AND METHODS Rats were randomly assigned to three experimental groups: selective PVL, se...

Disseminated disease, especially to the liver, constitutes the major risk of recurrence for colorectal cancer patients. However, successful resection can still be achieved in 25-35% of colorectal cancer patients with isolated metastases. To evaluate the clinical value of occult micrometastatic disease detection in lymph nodes, we tested genetic (K-ras and p53 gene mutations) and epigenetic (p16...

the present study aimed to investigate protective effects of dietary cinnamon essential oil supplementation on decreasing the toxicity of aflatoxin b1 to rainbow trout fingerlings regarding hematological indices, serum biochemistry and liver histopathology. fish were randomly exposed to six distinct treatments composed of different combinations of three dietary aflatoxin (0, 25 and 50 ppb) and ...

Hepatitis results from a variety of etiologies and chronic hepatitis can lead to hepatic fibrosis and cirrhosis. The diagnosis and grading of liver disease severity depends upon invasive biopsy. Histopathology is based on percutaneously sampled liver tissue for grading of liver interstitial fibrosis and inflammation. There are limitations associated with liver biopsies including complications s...
