A simple method to include the strong force in atom–antiatom scattering is presented. It is based on the strong-force scattering length between the nucleon and antinucleon. Using this method elastic and annihilation cross sections are calculated for hydrogen–antihydrogen and helium–antihydrogen scattering. The results are compared to first-order perturbation theory using a pseudo potential. The...
This paper describes the MC@NLO method for matching next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD with the parton shower and hadronization model of the Monte Carlo (MC) event generator Herwig++, for e+e− annihilation and Drell-Yan lepton pair production. Details of the event generation method as well as spin, flavour, momentum and colour assignments are presented. We obtain predictions for vario...
We study the effects of gluon radiation in top pair production and their decays for e + e − annihilation at the ILC. To achieve this we apply the POWHEG method and interface our results to the Monte Carlo event generator Herwig++. We consider a center-of-mass energy of √ s = 500 GeV and compare decay correlations and bottom quark distributions before hadronization.
Event-shape distributions in ee annihilation offer a unique laboratory for understanding perturbative and non-perturbative aspects of QCD. Dressed Gluon Exponentiation is a resummation method designed to evaluate differential cross sections close to a kinematic threshold and provide the basis for parametrization of power corrections. The method and its application in the case of the thrust and ...
A method is proposed for detecting positron-atom bound states by observing enhanced positron annihilation due to electronic Feshbach resonances at electron-volt energies. The method is applicable to a range of open-shell transition-metal atoms which are likely to bind the positron: Fe, Co, Ni, Tc, Ru, Rh, Sn, Sb, Ta, W, Os, Ir, and Pt. Estimates of their binding energies are provided.
The \losing positions" of certain combinatorial games constitute linear error detecting and correcting codes. We show that annihilation games provide a potentially polynomial method for computing codes (anncodes). We also give a short proof of the basic properties of the previously known lexicodes, which are deened by means of an exponential algorithm, and are related to game theory. In the nal...
We apply the positive-weight Monte Carlo method of Nason for simulating QCD processes accurate to Next-To-Leading Order to the case of e+e− annihilation to hadrons. The method entails the generation of the hardest gluon emission first and then subsequently adding a ‘truncated’ shower before the emission. We have interfaced our result to the Herwig++ shower Monte Carlo program and obtained bette...
An algorithm for the numerical solution of a nonlinear integro-differential equation arising in the single-species annihilation reaction A + A → ∅ modeling is discussed. Finite difference method together with the linear approximation of the unknown function is considered. For divergent integrals presented in the equation for dimension d = 2 a regularization is used. Some numerical results are p...
A general functional separation solution, containing two arbitrary functions, is first obtained for the Melnikov equation by means of the singular manifold method. Some novel localized coherent structures are given by appropriately choosing these arbitrary functions, whose interaction properties are numerically studied. The creation and annihilation phenomenon of dromion structure is reported. ...
