Collisionless electron-temperature-gradient-driven ~ETG! turbulence in toroidal geometry is studied via nonlinear numerical simulations. To this aim, two massively parallel, fully gyrokinetic Vlasov codes are used, both including electromagnetic effects. Somewhat surprisingly, and unlike in the analogous case of ion-temperature-gradient-driven ~ITG! turbulence, we find that the turbulent electr...

Mutations in the secondary quinone electron acceptor (QB) pocket of the D1 protein conferring a modification on the donor side of photosystem II (PSII) have been characterized by gene cloning and sequencing in two metribuzin-resistant mutants of Synechocystis PCC 6714. The mutations induce different herbicide resistances: in M30, a point mutation at the codon 248, isoleucine to threonine, resul...

The generation of large-scale zonal flows by small-scale electrostatic drift waves in electron temperature gradient(ETG) driven turbulence model is considered. The generation mechanism is based on the modulational instability of a finite amplitude monochromatic drift wave. The threshold and growth rate of the instability as well as the optimal spatial scale of zonal flow are obtained.

Abstract Turbulent transport of impurity ions with hollow density profiles (HDPs), which are widely observed in magnetically confined plasmas and desirable for fusion reactor, is self-consistently investigated. A full gyrokinetic description employed main ions. Instead conventional ion temperature gradient (ITG, including ITG) trapped electron modes (TEMs), (IMs), driven by opposite to that ele...

The present investigation analyzes the cellular distribution of muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (mAChRs) and the gamma isoform of protein kinase C (PKC) in the rat parietal cortex employing the monoclonal antibodies M35 and 36G9, respectively. Muscarinic cholinoceptive neurons were most present in layers 2, 3 and 5, whereas most PKC gamma-positive cells were found in layers 2, 5 and 6. Under...

ITG and ETG turbulence is investigated with the nonlinear global PIC code ORB5. The large variety of numerical schemes and simulations domains used has sometimes lead to important discrepancies in the transport predictions. In order to discuss these disagreements, emphasis must be put on ways to check the numerical accuracy, such as energy conservation and numerical noise measurement. This pape...

There is currently some debate over a possible role of galanin in pain processing. It was recently reported that the levels of galanin in dorsal root ganglia (DRGs) seem related to development of allodynia after unilateral sciatic nerve constriction injury. In our present study, we aimed at characterizing the effect of exogenous and endogenous galanin on pain behavior in allodynic and non-allod...

Laboratory animals (mice and guinea pigs) were infected with the isolates of Coxiella burnetii (Derrick, 1939) obtained from bovine milk (M18 and M35) and the ticks Ixodes ricinus (Linnaeus, 1758) and Dermacentor marginatus (Sulzer, 1776) (Kl3 and Kl6, respectively), and with the reference strain Nine Mile. Neither mortality nor lethality occurred with the mice. Antibody response in mice infect...
