Different porphyrin conformations are believed to play a role in controlling the cofactor properties in natural tetrapyrrole-protein complexes. In order to study the correlation between macrocycle nonplanarity and physicochemical properties in detail, a series of six porphyrins with graded degree of macrocycle distortion was investigated. These conformationally designed porphyrins are based on ...
Pelvic radiation for cancer therapy can damage a variety of normal tissues. In this study, we demonstrate that radiation causes acute changes to pelvic fibroblasts such as the transformation to myofibroblasts and the induction of senescence, which persist months after radiation. The addition of the manganese porphyrin, MnTE-2-PyP, resulted in protection of these acute changes in fibroblasts and...
According to NMR evidence the metal-mediated sandwich assemblies of porphyrins 2 and 3 undergo in solution a thermally driven motion that resembles that of a stepper: the spontaneous rotational motion of the pyridyl rings is converted into a reciprocating linear motion of the porphyrins.
The synthesis of covalent cages consisting of two porphyrins connected by four flexible spacers each incorporating two 1,2,3-triazolyl ligands is reported. Binding of four silver(I) to the peripheral ligands induces conformational changes in solution and locks the porphyrins in a face-to-face disposition.
Three new molecular cages-a trigonal prism (2) and two cubic-shaped boxes of increasing size (3, 4)-featuring as many as 10 porphyrins were obtained in quantitative yields by self-assembly of a single bis-zincporphyrin metallacycle (1) with appropriate polytopic N-linkers: the trigonal planar tpt or the cruciform porphyrins 4'-TPyP and 4'-TPhPyP.
substituted porphyrins. The structure of the J-aggregates of H4TPPS4 belongs to the chiral space group P21 and includes four porphyrin molecules in its unit cell. The intermolecular stabilization of the zwitterionic units by hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions between the positively charged central NH groups and the periphery anionic sulfonato groups results in a structure of porphy...
Extended π-conjugated ruthenium zinc-porphyrin complexes with enhanced nonlinear-optical properties.
Zinc porphyrin dimers and trimers, in which the porphyrins are connected via a ruthenium metal core, exhibit large third-order nonlinear optical absorption coefficients and refractive indices. These properties are a result of the presence of multiple porphyrins, which lead to an extension of the π-conjugated system and the octupolar effect.
Zinc porphyrins possessing three p-carboxyphenyl anchoring groups with various substituents were prepared by a facile three-step route in good yields. Zn1NH3A with electron donating and anti-aggregation meso substituents has achieved the highest efficiency of 6.10%. These porphyrins with three p-carboxyphenyl groups are more stable toward photo-bleaching than their single anchoring group analogs.
Phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have the great advantage of highlyefficient emission compared with conventional fluorescent OLEDs. Pt(II) porphyrins are among the most promising saturated red phosphorescent dyes, yet tuning of their properties by making structural modifications has only been attempted on a modest scale, despite the large structuraldiversity of synthetic por...
ers used in photodynamic therapy. Upon light irradiation, porphyrins produce singlet oxygen, which causes cytotoxic activity at specific subcellular sites, leading to cell death. The quantum yield of singlet oxygen depends on the porphyrin employed, being significantly lowered by dimerization or aggregation of the porphyrin. The aggregation of porphyrins also affects the transfer of electrons f...
