Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging was performed in 14 patients with intracavitary cardiac tumors diagnosed by echocardiography. Except in the patients whose echocardiograms were diagnostic of atrial myxomas, this modality contributed important additional anatomic information regarding the tumor's relationship to the normal intracardiac structures and/or its extension to the adjacent vascular and ...
left ventricular pseudoaneurysm is a rare complication of myocardial infarction. Since the risk of rupture is high , accurate diagnosis and if possible prompt surgical repair are of great importance. A 79 year old man was admitted because of dyspnea on e...
A 40 year old woman with cough and exertional dyspnoea was found to have a large right atrial myxoma by M mode and cross sectional echocardiography. Prolapse of the tumour into the right ventricle occurred during diastole with sufficient force to cause mechanical distortion of the interventricular septum. Septal motion became normal after surgical resection of the myxoma.
A case of cardiomyopathy with systemic emboli is reported. Two dimensional and M-mode echocardiography showed abnormal intracavitary echoes. After further systemic emboli, echocardiograms showed the complete disappearance of the abnormal echoes found previously in the apex, which suggested that the emboli resulted from detachment of the left ventricular mural thrombi.
BACKGROUND Color M-mode Doppler echocardiography has been suggested as a new noninvasive technique for assessing left ventricular diastolic function. The present study investigated intraventricular filling pattern by color M-mode Doppler in patients during percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). In a dog model of myocardial ischemia, the color M-mode flow pattern was related to i...
We have analyzed the genesis of physical signs in a case of prolapsing left atrial myxoma by simultaneous phono-, apex- and M-mode echocardiography. Our findings confirm a direct relationship of tumor movements with notching in the upstroke of the apexcardiogram and with the protodiastolic "tumor plop."
This report presents a patient with an unusual clinical course associated with a mitral "mass" recorded by M-mode and cross-sectional echocardiography. The "mass" was confirmed at operation to be redundant myxomatous mitral valve leaflets. The problem of echocardiographic resolution in the setting of mitral valve prolapse and of the differential diagnosis of mitral mass is discussed in detail.
We describe the M-mode and two-dimensional echocardiographic findings of a floating thrombus in the left atrium. Though the features resembled those of pedunculated left atrial myxoma, two-dimensional echocardiography was helpful in differentiating between thrombus and myxoma in the left atrium.
Cardiac troponin I (TnI) knockout mice exhibit a phenotype of sudden death at 17-18 days after birth due to a progressive loss of TnI. The objective of this study was to gain insight into the physiological consequences of TnI depletion and the cause of death in these mice. Cardiac function was monitored serially between 12 and 17 days of age by using high-resolution ultrasonic imaging and Doppl...
BACKGROUND Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is 1 of the most common congenital heart defects in dogs and percutaneous closure is effective in achieving ductal closure; PDA closure is associated with abrupt hemodynamic changes. HYPOTHESIS A marked decrease in standard parameters of systolic function as assessed by M- or B-mode echocardiography after PDA closure was identified in previous studies...
