The emergence and spread of colistin resistance among multidrug-resistant (MDR) Klebsiella pneumoniae represent a critical threat to global health. Here, we report the complete genome sequences of 10 MDR, colistin-susceptible and -resistant K. pneumoniae clinical isolates obtained in Pakistan between 2010 and 2013.

Unlike in pulmonary multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis, the clinical outcome of MDR tuberculous meningitis (TBM) in children, including extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis, is poor and management is challenging. We report the successful treatment of a case of extensively drug-resistant TBM in a 4-year-old girl, and we discuss implications for tuberculosis diagnosis and chemotherapy.

Combined fecal microbiota transfer and antibiotic treatment prevented recurrences of urinary tract infections with multidrug-resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but it failed to eradicate intestinal colonization with MDR Escherichia coli. Based on microbiota analysis, failure was not associated with distinct diminished microbiota diversity.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates from Zunyi were found more diversified but clustered less frequently to the Beijing family compared to isolates from other areas of China. These observations, on top of the fact that the Zunyi area has a high prevalence of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), support the notion that Beijing family isolates may not be linked to MDR-TB.

Twenty-one patients with multidrug-resistant (MDR) Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa pneumonia were treated with nebulized polymyxin E (colistin). Overall clinical and microbiological response rates were 57.1% and 85.7%, respectively. Nebulized colistin may be reasonably efficacious and safe for treatment of MDR pneumonia. Its role in therapy warrants further investigation in c...

To improve multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) detection, we successfully introduced the rpoB gene mutation line probe assay into the national laboratory in Latvia, a country with epidemic MDR-TB. The assay detected rifampin resistance with 91% sensitivity and 96% specificity within 1 to 5 days (vs. 12-47 days for BACTEC).

The emergence and spread of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria have been regarded as major challenges among health care-associated infections worldwide. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of an MDR Stenotrophomonas maltophilia strain isolated in 2014 from King Abdulla Medical City, Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Klebsiella pneumoniae has become a major contributor to nosocomial bloodstream infections. Here, we report the draft genome sequences of two MDR extended-spectrum-β-lactamase-producing strains causing bloodstream infections. These sequenced genomes display a wide-spectrum virulence arsenal and will help us understand the genomic basis of K. pneumoniae virulence.

We validated the implementation of the INNO-LiPA Rif.TB line probe assay, a diagnostic test for rapid detection of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), in Rwanda. No substantial difference was found between results obtained in Rwanda and results obtained in Belgium with the same samples. This rapid diagnostic test for MDR-TB can therefore be reliably implemented in a resource-poor setting.

A 17-year-old female diagnosed to have multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis (MDR-TB), presented with Poncet's arthritis which responded to second-line anti-TB treatment. Poncet's disease is more commonly present in association with extra-pulmonary TB and involves large and small joints. However, our patient had pulmonary MDR-TB and small joint involvement.
