Data from three co-located wide-angle ocean-bottom seismograph experiments were used to make a new two-dimensional tomographic image of the East Pacific Rise at 9°N. The upper half crustal magmatic system has different seismic structure than lower half, presumably corresponding with differences in melt storage and cooling. region is narrow (∼4.5 km wide 2–3 depth bsf) estimated contain higher f...

Hypergraph partitioning is an NP-hard problem that occurs in many computer science applications where it is necessary to reduce large problems into a number of smaller, computationally tractable sub-problems, with the consequent desire that these should be as independent as possible to reduce the inevitable side-effects of not taking a global approach. Current techniques use a multilevel approa...

Mid-level image features have been shown to be helpful to bridge the semantic gap between low-level and high-level image representations. Many existing methods to learn mid-level visual elements consider each mid-level feature individually, and do not take their mutual relationships into account. We follow the intuitive idea that learning discriminative combinations of visual elements can help ...

In this paper we study a geometric coding algorithm for indefinite binary quadratic forms Q for the congruence subgroup Γ(N), with respect to the usual fundamental domain FN , where N is assumed prime. The cycles Q1, . . . , Qn that this algorithm produces are such that the the corresponding paths γ1, . . . , γn in the Riemann surface X0(N)(C) have a nice behaviour around the elliptic points of...

The current study proposes a new procedure for separately estimating slope change and level change between two adjacent phases in single-case designs. The procedure eliminates baseline trend from the whole data series before assessing treatment effectiveness. The steps necessary to obtain the estimates are presented in detail, explained, and illustrated. A simulation study is carried out to exp...

We study the n-level spectral correlation functions of classically chaotic quantum systems without time-reversal symmetry. According to Bohigas, Giannoni and Schmit’s universality conjecture, it is expected that the correlation functions are in agreement with the prediction of the Circular Unitary Ensemble (CUE) of random matrices. A semiclassical resummation formalism allows us to express the ...

8 We extend the Level-n theory of bounded rationality from the domain of symmetric normal-form games 9 to the domain simple two-player, two-stage extensive-form games. We designed and conducted experiments 10 to test pertinent hypotheses. The extended Level-n model fits the data remarkably well and significantly 11 better than subgame perfect equilibrium theory. Moreover, we find that the vast ...

Histograms are a lossy compression technique widely applied in various application contexts, like query optimization, statistical and temporal databases, OLAP applications, data streams, and so on. In most cases, accuracy in reconstructing from the histogram some original information, plays a crucial role. Thus, several proposals for constructing histograms trying to maximize their accuracy, ha...

This paper presents the results of classifying Serbian text documents using the byte-level n-gram based frequency statistics technique, employing four different dissimilarity measures. Results show that the byte-level n-grams text categorization, although very simple and language independent, achieves very good accuracy.
