Although crucial for resolving the issue of charge symmetry in the nuclear force, direct measurement of nn-scattering by colliding free neutrons has never been performed. At present the Russian pulsed reactor YAGUAR is the best neutron source for performing such a measurement. It has a through channel where the neutron moderator is installed. The neutrons are counted by a neutron detector locat...

The boron neutron capture therapy is mainly suited in the treatment of some tumor kinds which revealed ineffective to the traditional radiotherapy. In order to take advantage of such a therapeutic modality in hospital environments, neutron beams of suitable energy and flux levels provided by compact size facilities are needed. The advantages and drawbacks of several neutron beams are here analy...

Using a very deep observation with HST/STIS, we have searched for an optical counterpart to the nearby radio-quiet isolated neutron star RX J1308.6+2127 (RBS 1223). We have identified a single object in the 90% Chandra error circle that we believe to be the optical counterpart. This object has m50CCD = 28.56 ± 0.13 mag, which translates approximately to an unabsorbed flux of Fλ = (1.7 ± 0.3)× 1...

We perform the first reflection study of the soft X-ray transient and Type 1 burst source XTE J1709-267 using NuSTAR observations during its 2016 June outburst. There was an increase in flux near the end of the observations, which corresponds to an increase from ∼0.04 LEdd to ∼0.06 LEdd assuming a distance of 8.5 kpc. We have separately examined spectra from the low and high flux intervals, whi...

We investigate three mechanisms that promote the loss of magnetic flux from an isolated neutron star. Ohmic decay produces a diffusion of the magnetic field with respect to the charged particles. It proceeds at a rate that is inversely proportional to the electric conductivity and independent of the magnetic field strength. Ohmic decay occurs in both the fluid core and solid crust of a neutron ...

The Low Energy Neutron Source (LENS) at Indiana University will provide moderated neutrons in the meV energy range for materials and neutron physics research as well as MeV energy range neutrons for creating a high flux neutron test environment. Neutrons will be generated by colliding 13 MeV protons with a Be target. Since December 2004, using an existing AccSys PL-7 RFQ and DTL, we have been a...

Neutron strain scanning techniques have been developing since the early 1980s U-3J and synchrotron X • ray techniques rapidly since the 1990s [4, 5]. The first neutron measurements used single detector instruments at medium flux reactor sources, 'gauge volumes' that were relatively large and coarsely defined, manual positioning of samples and computer-aided but labour-intensive Interactive Gaus...

In this research, required information to simulate and perform neutronic calculations for Bushehr nuclear power plant using the MCNPX code was provided. The results of the code were verified with at least one of the operational data from the reactor. In this work, by writing and implementing a comprehensive program to solve the equations of statistical distribution, neutron flux was obtained an...

We report optical B-band observations with the Large Binocular Telescope LBT of the isolated neutron star RBS1774. The stacked image with total exposure 2. h5 reveals a candidate optical counterpart at mB = 26.96 ± 0.20 at position α(2000) = 21h43m03. s40, δ(2000) = +06◦54′17. ′′5, within the joint Chandra and XMM-Newton error circles. We analyse archival XMM-Newton observations and derive revi...
