When an unsmooth flexible tube rotates, rich tones are produced. We propose a physical model that simulates this behavior. The tube is modeled as an open-ended organ pipe blown by an air stream pumped by a rotationally induced pressure which follows Bernoulli’s principle.

This paper presents mechanical behavior of a functionally graded (FG) cantilever micro-beam subjected to a nonlinear electrostatic pressure and thermal moment considering effects of material length scale parameters. Material properties through the beam thickness direction are graded. The top surface of the micro-beam is made of pure metal and the bottom surface from a mixture of metal and ceram...

To control the nonlinear effects of long-range beambeam interactions due to a large number of non-localized parasitic collisions, we propose a global compensation scheme for long-range beam-beam interactions by using magnetic multipole correctors based on a minimization of nonlinearities in one-turn maps of a storage ring collider. Simulation study on a test model that is similar to LHC showed ...

in this paper, the mechanical behavior of three-phase inhomogeneous materials is modeled using the meso-scale model with lattice beams for static and dynamic analyses. the timoshenko beam theory is applied instead of the classical euler-bernoulli beam theory and the mechanical properties of lattice beam connection are derived based on the continuum medium using the non-local continuum theory. t...

A directional sound beam can be generated by a parametric loudspeaker system through the nonlinear interaction between finite-amplitude ultrasonic waves in air. However, this nonlinear interaction also produces harmonic components in addition to the desired audible sound. In order to investigate this nonlinear phenomenon, a baseband distortion model is developed from nonlinear system identifica...

Received August 27, 2010; accepted October 18, 2010; posted October 21, 2010 (Doc. ID 134145); published December 14, 2010 In this work, polarization attraction is meant to be the conservative nonlinear effect that transforms any arbitrary input state of polarization (SOP) of an intense optical signal beam fed to a nonlinear medium into approximately one and the same SOP at the output, provided...

The paper presents a Galerkin approach for the solution of the nonlinear beam equations. Nonlinear beam analysis is required when analyzing helicopter blades or high-aspect-ratio wings. The present analysis improves on earlier solution techniques based on nonlinear finite element approach used in Refs. 1 and 2, and is the ideal choice for beam-like structures undergoing large motion. Furthermor...

We experimentally demonstrate that the orbital angular momentum (OAM) of a second harmonic (SH) beam, generated within twisted nonlinear photonic crystals, depends both on the OAM of the input pump beam and on the quasi-angular momentum of the crystal. In addition, when the pump's radial index is zero, the radial index of the SH beam is equal to that of the nonlinear crystal. Furthermore, by mi...

the purpose of this paper is to studying nonlinear k-ε turbulence models and its advantages in internal combustion engines, since the standard k-ε model is incapable of representing the anisotropy of turbulence intensities and fails to express the reynolds stresses adequately in rotating flows. therefore, this model is not only incapable of expressing the anisotropy of turbulence in an engine c...

In this article, a nonlinear dynamic model of a flexible manipulator is derived through finite element method associated with Lagrange approach. The flexible manipulator is modeled as an Euler–Bernoulli beam driven by a motor at its base and with a point mass tip payload. The generalized coordinates of the system are selected to be the displacements and rotations of the nodes on the considered ...
