Conclusion: The incidence and intensity of Candida (primarily C. albicans) was greater in OSMF patients than in healthy controls, but these findings were within the normal limit (3-47%). Therefore, Candida may not be an etiologic factor in malignant transformation. However, controversy still exists over whether the chewing of betel quid in cases of OSMF has an inhibitory effect or promotes the ...
Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a collagen disorder commonly seen in the Indian subcontinent ,it is a complex precancerous condition. It was initially found mainly in India but it is now often seen in the Asian populations belonging to United Kingdom, USA, and other developed countries, and is therefore a serious concert for global health, causative agent of osmf is considered to be areca-nut...
Several studies have demonstrated an independent association of deleterious oral habits such as smoking, betel quid chewing, and chewing tobacco with the occurrence of oral cancer. The potentially malignant conditions such as oral submucous fibrosis (OSF), leukoplakia, erythroplakia associated with smoking, and smokeless tobacco, have a greater prevalence in our country. OSF has high cancer tur...
Oral Submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a well-known debilitating precancerous condition of oral cavity which results due to chewing tobacco, areca nuts and its related products. It is an irreversible condition with very high malignant potential. There is a dire need to curb this common but avoidable condition that is increasingly observed in the younger age groups which leads to early development of...
Sweat tests were carried out on 14 patients with cystic fibrosis and 14 controls when on no antibiotics and when taking oral flucloxacillin. No significant differences in results were obtained for either group whether on or off antibiotics. Oral flucloxacillin does not affect sweat electrolytes and is not a contraindication to sweat testing.
It is a challenge to simultaneously reconstruct bilateral buccal defects following oral cancer ablation or release of oral submucous fibrosis. In this study, we report two cases where bipaddled anterolateral thigh perforator flaps were used to resurface two separate buccal defects.
Intestinal fibrosis is a debilitating complication of Crohn’s disease (CD) patients. Our groups and others discovered that intestinal metabolites are associated with fibrosis. We selected the most relevant determined their anti-fibrogenic efficacies in three mouse models compared metabolite profiles between non-IBD, stricturing CD, non-stricturing CD patients inflammatory bowel (IBD) multi-omic...
