In this study, two thermal-tolerant mutants of Chlorella sp. MT-7 and MT-15, were isolated. In indoor cultivation, specific growth rate (micro, d(-1)) of the mutants were 1.4 to 1.8-fold at 25 degrees Celsius and 3.3 to 6.7-fold at 40 degrees Celsius higher than those of wild type. The carbon dioxide fixation rate of both microalgal mutants was also significantly higher than that of wild type. ...

This study examines time-use for outdoor recreation during 1965 to 2007. Using data on over 47,000 individuals from six nationally representative time-use surveys, we first document time-use trends between 1965 and 2007. We then develop a two-part instrumental variable censored regression model (a hurdle model) to predict individual-level time-use. Our results show that per capita time-use in o...

The vision of Integrated Broadband Mobile System (IBMS) is to build up a future broadband mobile communication system, covering both indoor and outdoor environments in a consistent and transparent way. The basic system approach is a trade-off between mobility and data rate in outdoor, between coverage and data rate in indoor, and a transparent migration between indoor/outdoor. These goals are p...

abstract background: the radiological impact of the use of phosphate fertilizers in soil is due to the internal irradiation of the lung by the alpha particles, short lived radon-thoron progeny and the external irradiation of the body by gamma rays emitted from radionuclides in situ. this paper describes the results of gamma spectrometric measurements of the concentration of the natural radionuc...

introduction: this study investigates to what extent the computed dose received by lung tissue in a commercially available treatment planning system (tps) for 192ir high-dose-rate breast brachytherapy is accurate in view of tissue inhomogeneities and presence of ribs. materials and methods: a ct scan of the breast was used to construct a patient-equivalent phantom in the clinical treatment plan...

Background: In some areas of Ramsar, a city in northern Iran, residents receive a much higher annual radiation exposure than is permitted for radiation workers. Induction of adaptive response in residents of Ramsar has been reported previously. In this study induction of such a response in short term exposure to high background levels of gamma radiation is investigated. Materials and M...

Background: Increased exposure from background radiations and the attendant health effects have in recent times drawn attention of researchers. This study aimed to assess indoor outdoor radiation levels selected offices/industrial buildings Nnewi, Anambra State, Nigeria. Methods: Forty four villages Nnewi were surveyed using a calibrated international medicom CRM 100 monitor. Radiation readings...
