We have used transient terahertz photoconductivity measurements to assess the efficacy of two-temperature growth and core-shell encapsulation techniques on the electronic properties of GaAs nanowires. We demonstrate that two-temperature growth of the GaAs core leads to an almost doubling in charge-carrier mobility and a tripling of carrier lifetime. In addition, overcoating the GaAs core with a...
A novel dipolar-modulated charge-doped trilayer n-n organic heterojunction with a bidirectional tunable energy band discontinuity is constructed. The rectifying mechanism of the trilayer is similar to the rectifying and inverse-rectifying characteristics from n-p and p-n junctions, respectively. Zero-bias optoelectronic behavior and persistent photoconductivity are discovered. These results sho...
The distribution of the conduction-band tail states in a Zn03Cd07Se II-VI semiconductor alloy has been determined experimentally using persistent photoconductivity (PPC) transient measurements, and is confirmed to be exponential. Our results show that the transport properties in II-VI semiconductor alloys are strongly influenced by tail states caused by alloy disorder. A class of transport prop...
The metal-insulator transition (MIT) caused purely by alloy disorder in a Zno 3Cdo 7Se semiconductor alloy has been probed by using persistent photoconductivity. Key parameters that describe the MIT, including the critical electron concentration n, and the energy tail states distribution parameter Eo, have been determined experimentally. Our results, together with those obtained for impurity-do...

We report the synthesis and properties of rod-shaped gold/iron oxide nanomotors that are powered by visible light in dilute hydrogen peroxide solutions. Electrochemical measurements confirmed that the light-driven nanomotors operate by a self-electrophoretic mechanism, modulated by the photovoltage and the photoconductivity of gold/iron oxide. Due to the magnetism of iron oxide, the nanomotors ...
