Standard star photometry dominated the second part of the th century reaching its zenith in the s It was introduced to take advantage of the high sensitivity and large dynamic range of photomultiplier tubes compared to photographic plates As the quantum e ciency of photodetectors improved and the wavelength range extended further to the red standard systems were modi ed and re ned and deviation...
We present V and Ic CCD photometry for 40 LMC Cepheids at 1 to 3 epochs. This represents a significant increase in the number of LMC Cepheids with I-band data, and, as we show, is a useful addition to the sample which can be used to calibrate the period–luminosity relations in these important bands.
Following recent claims regarding possible errors in the photometry of SNe carried out at Asiago observatory during the 70’s, which produced very blue (B−V ) color at maximum for some objects, we present the result of new CCD photometry of the sequences around 16 type Ia supernovae. Except for a fewcases, e.g. SN1970J andSN1972J forwhich a large zero point error has been found, the new data sho...
We have obtained integrated spectra and multi-filter photometry for a representative sample of ∼200 nearby galaxies. These galaxies span the entire Hubble sequence in morphological type, as well as a wide range of luminosities (MB = −14 to −22) and colors (B−R = 0.4 to 1.8). Here we describe the sample selection criteria and the U,B,R surface photometry for these galaxies. The spectrophotometri...
We present the ESO Distant Cluster Survey (EDisCS) a survey of 20 fields containing distant galaxy clusters with redshifts ranging from 0.4 to almost 1.0. Candidate clusters were chosen from among the brightest objects identified in the Las Campanas Distant Cluster Survey, half with estimated redshift zest ∼ 0.5 and half with zest ∼ 0.8. They were confirmed by identifying red sequences in moder...
We have reanalyzed the OGLE V and I photometry of ∼ 500, 000 stars in Baade’s Window, and we confirm the extinction map published by Stanek (1996). However, we find that the interpretation of the OGLE color–magnitude diagram for the disk stars proposed by Paczyński et al. (1994) was incorrect: the dominant disk population in Baade’s Window is old, and we find no evidence for a large hole in the...
This is the first time that CCD-photometry in the three filter∆a system (Maitzen 1976) was carried out after two decades of classical photoelectric photometry. The aim is to extend the successful search for chemically peculiar stars to more and distant open clusters as well as far galactic fields. In this paper we present CCD-photometry for a sample of 25 field stars with published spectroscopi...
Panchromatic spectral energy distribution (SED) fitting is a critical tool for determining the physical properties of distant galaxies, such as their stellar mass and star formation rate. One widely used method is the publicly available MAGPHYS code. We build on our previous analysis (Hayward & Smith 2015) by presenting some modifications which enable MAGPHYS to automatically estimate galaxy st...
We present a progress report on Washington photometry of several hundred new globular cluster (GC) candidates in M31 which were recently found from our new CCD survey of GCs. Washington CMT1 filters we used are very efficient to survey extragalactic GCs and to estimate the metallicity of GCs. Preliminary color-magnitude diagrams and color-color diagrams of the new GC candidates and known GCs in...
We present new infrared JHK photometry for 61 halo and disk stars around the stellar/substellar boundary. We also present new L ′ photometry for 21 of these stars and for 40 low–mass stars taken from the Leggett 1992 photometry compilation. These data are combined with available optical photometry and astrometric data to produce color–color and absolute magnitude–color diagrams — the current sa...
