The aspects of the proposed vapor clearing and condensation experiment involve rapidly generating an IFE prototypical post-shot vapor density in a control volume using characteristic liquid chamber material (FliBe, Li2BeF4), and investigating the condensation rates for the proposed schemes. This experimental goal is achieved by: 1) a pulsed electrothermal plasma source that simulates the pellet...

The classical Blandford & Payne (1982) model for the magnetocentrifugal acceleration and collimation of a disk-wind is revisited and refined. In the original model, the gas is cold and the solution is everywhere subfast magnetosonic. In the present model the plasma has a finite temperature and the self-consistent solution of the MHD equations starts with a subslow magnetosonic speed which subse...

At the Nevada Terawatt Facility we investigated the generation of a sheared plasma flow using conical wire arrays with an additional wire located on the axis of the pinch. The additional center wire generates axial current carrying plasma that serves as a target for the plasma accelerated from the outer wires, generating a sheared plasma flow which leads to the growth of the Kelvin-Helmholtz in...

We study the eeects of plasma viscosity on the dynamics of primordial magnetic elds by simulating magnetohydrodynamics in the early universe by appropriate non-linear cascade models. We nd numerically that even in the presence of large kinetic viscosity, magnetic energy is transferred to large length scales. There are indications, however, that the inverse cascade stops at a given time which de...

A new set of reduced equations governing two-dimensional, two-fluid, collisionless magnetic reconnection with arbitrary guide-field is derived. These equations represent a significant advance in magnetic reconnection theory, since the existing reduced equations used to investigate collisionless reconnection are only valid in the large guide-field limit. The new equations are used to calculate t...

In this paper, we present a new geometric level-set formulation of a plasmasheath interface arising in the plasma physics. We formally derive the explicit dynamics of the interface from the Euler-Poisson equations and study the local-time evolution of the interface and sheath in some special cases.

The relativistic effects on the TM-modes of one boundary corrugated parallel plate waveguide filled with uniaxial warm drifting plasma have been investigated. The dispersion relation for the TM-modes has been derived and the numerical computations have been carried out to study the effects of increased (relativistic) drift velocity and the temperature under this condition. The effects of drift ...

Plasma display panels (PDP) are now a commonly used display technology for both commercial information display purposes and consumer television applications. Despite the widespread deployment of these displays, it was not commonly known whether these displays could be used successfully for time-sequential stereoscopic 3D visualization (i.e. using LCS 3D glasses). We therefore conducted a study ...

The focusing strength of plasma lenses used with high energy electron or positron beams can give rise to synchrotron radiation with critical energies in the MeV range. A method is described for measuring the characteristic energy of this radiation as a way of monitoring the strength of the focus. The principle has been implemented in a plasma lens experiment with a 28.5 GeV positron beam.

Numerical investigations of a warm-fluid model with an isothermal equation of state for the perpendicular dynamics of an axisymmetric, magnetically confined pure electron plasma predict an exponentially unstable, I= 1, diocotron mode for hollow density profiles. , The unstable mode can be identified with a stable, nonsmooth mode that exists in cold drift models but which is destabilized-by fini...
