A composite film of nickel sulfide/platinum/titanium foil (NiS/Pt/Ti) with low cost and high electrocatalytic activity was synthesized by the use of an in situ electropolymerization route and proposed as a counter electrode (CE) catalyst for flexible dye-sensitized solar cells (FDSSCs). The FDSSC with the NiS/Pt/Ti CE exhibited a comparable power conversion efficiency of 7.20% to the FDSSC with...

Antibiotics have recently gained in popularity due to their usage medical treatment and the process of removing them from environment. Amoxicillin is one antibiotics that constitutes study's subject. On a Pt disc electrode cobalt hydroxide modified-Pt electrode, scan rate pH electrochemical oxidation amoxicillin were investigated. The voltammetry measurement's current peak revealed changing sur...

We investigate gold, TiN, and platinum in combination with a chitosan-catechol-based redox-cycling system (RCS) for electrochemical detection of the antipsychotic clozapine. We have previously demonstrated the RCS for detection of clozapine in serum, but challenges remain regarding low signal-to-noise ratios. This can be mitigated by selection of electrode materials with beneficial surface morp...

A membrane electrode assembly (MEA) for hydrogen fuel cells has been fabricated using single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) support and platinum catalyst. Films of SWCNTs and commercial platinum (Pt) black were sequentially cast on a carbon fiber electrode (CFE) using a simple electrophoretic deposition procedure. Scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy showed that the nanotubes a...

Platinum surfaces play a decisive role in catalysis in sensors, fuel cells, solar cells and other applications like neuronal stimulation and recording. Technical advances in nanotechnology contributed tremendously to the progress in these fields. A fundamental understanding of the chemical and physical interactions between the nanostructured surfaces and electrolytes is essential, but was barel...

This paper reports the results obtained from determination of ascorbic acid with platinum-based voltammetric sensors modified potassium hexacyanoferrate-doped polypyrrole. The preparation electrodes was carried out by electrochemical polymerization pyrrole aqueous solutions, using chronoamperometry. Polypyrrole films were deposited on surface platinum electrode, applying a constant potential 0....

The oxygen reduction reaction has been the object of intensive research in an attempt to improve sluggish kinetics that limit performance renewable energy storage and utilization systems. Platinum or platinum bimetallic alloys are common choices as electrode material, but prohibitive costs hamper their use. Complex alloy materials, such high-entropy (HEAs), more generally, multiple principal co...

The large-scale practical application of fuel cells will be difficult to realize if the expensive platinum-based electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reactions (ORRs) cannot be replaced by other efficient, low-cost, and stable electrodes. Here, we report that vertically aligned nitrogen-containing carbon nanotubes (VA-NCNTs) can act as a metal-free electrode with a much better electrocatalytic...

We report a unique and highly stable electrocatalyst-platinum (Pt) supported on titanium-ruthenium oxide (TRO)-for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The Pt/TRO electrocatalyst was exposed to stringent accelerated test protocols designed to induce degradation and failure mechanisms identical to those seen during extended normal operation of a fuel cell automobile-namely, support corrosion during vehi...

Cyclic electrodeposition of platinum and copper enables the fabrication of high surface area electrodes (roughness factors of >3000) by multiple alternation of alloy co-deposition and dealloying of copper from the just-fabricated alloy layers. The underlying processes, resulting electrode structures, and their applicability to potentially implantable glucose fuel cells are discussed.
