We present a “nudged” version of the Met Office general circulation model, the Unified Model. We constrain this global climate model using ERA-40 re-analysis data with the aim of reproducing the observed “weather” over a year from September 1999. Quantitative assessments are made of its performance, focusing on dynamical aspects of nudging and demonstrating that the “weather” is well simulated.

We present a series of results acquired at a 2-kilometer distance using our lidar system under several weather conditions, clear, cloudy, light rain, moderately foggy, and night. The experimental results show that ghost imaging lidar via spar-sity constraints can realize imaging in all these weather conditions.
This paper reviews the cumulative effect of land-cover change on local, regional, and global weather and climate. Documented land-cover changes from 1700 to the present are shown to be particularly significant in the tropics.
