The use of medicinal plants for the treatment of various diseases is an old practice in most countries and it still offers an enormous potential source of new anti-infective agents. The present study was conducted to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of Wattakaka volubilis leaf extract. Antimicrobial activity of Wattakaka volubilis methanol extract is determined by disc diffusion method . The...

Equipment maintenance is an essential need for successful industrial enterprises. Several software applications are used today for initiation and management of maintenance activities. This paper introduces the PROTEUS integration platform for cooperative interactions between maintenance applications. It is necessary to define the order of these interactions, the so-called business logic workflo...

At an intertidal site on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, the abundance of the invasive barnacle Chthamalus proteus was negatively correlated with abundance of the native limpet Siphonaria normalis. As the substratum at this site was a conglomerate of materials, we hypothesized that the observed pattern was the result of differences in substratum preferences, and/or negative interactions between the...

The present study aimed at analyzing the antibacterial efficacy of Mirabilis jalapa against different enteric bacteria includes Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Salmonella typhi, Shigella flexineri and Enterobacter aerogenes. Aqueous, Ethanolic, and hexane extracts of Mirabilis jalapa at the concentrations of 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 mg were prepared for this study. The antioxidant proper...

N-nitrosodimethylamine, a potent carcinogen, was produced by three strains each of Proteus mirabilis, P. morganii, and P. rettgeri, but not by three strains of P. vulgaris grown under the same conditions. Many of the alkaline-extractable volatile metabolites elaborated by these organisms are the same, but there are some qualitative and quantitative differences among species. Representative gas-...

Egg lysolecithin induces intercellular adhesion of Amoeba proteus. Pre-treatment of cells with Vibrio cholerae neuraminidase (VCN) increases the adhesive property of cells as was evidenced in their formation of larger cell aggregates than controls. A possible role of VCN exposed receptor sites in cellular adhesion is suggested.

Arylamidase activity in cell extracts of sonically cell treated suspensions of 23 Salmonella strains, including 12 strains of S. typhimurium, was investigated. All cultures hydrolyzed five of nine different neutral and basic substrates. Activity against aspartyl-, cystyl- histidinyl-, and isoleucyl-beta-naphylamide was negligible. Alanyl-beta-naphthylamide was the preferred substrate for the Sa...

To extend the knowledge on the fragments of Proteus penneri lipopolysaccharide core regions, which determine the cross-reactions with specific antibodies, serological studies were performed by use of P. penneri 7 core-specific antiserum and Proteus sp. lipopolysaccharides. Different reactivity of the tested antiserum with three groups of antigens suggested differences in their core regions' epi...

The effect of temperature variation on the multiplication rates of two strains of Amoeba proteus and the corresponding heterotransfer strains obtained by transplantation of nuclei between the 'parent' strains, has been studied. The two 'parent' strains multiply at a similar rate at 17° C but at different rates at 27 C and 11° C. The multiplication rates of the heterotransfers follow the cytopla...
