Introduction: Elbow dislocations are uncommon in children. The treatment and outcomes remains controversial. MATERIALS AND METHODS We report retrospectively the clinical and functional results of elbow dislocations in children treated in Sahloul University Hospital. Both isolated or pure dislocations and those associated with other injuries were evaluated separately. Results: Forty-eight chil...
We describe the use of MRI to establish the exact diagnosis in a swollen elbow in a neonate. Urgent diagnosis was needed for medical and social reasons. We accomplished this without the use of an invasive procedure or anaesthesia for a fracture that is recognised to be difficult to diagnose in patients of this age group.
Tennis elbow is a tendinopathy of the common extensor origin (fig 1) of the lateral elbow. Although the pathology is in the elbow region, patients present with gradual onset of pain on extension movements of the wrist and fingers and supination of the forearm. The condition was formerly known as “lateral epicondylitis.” Because the pathology is no longer thought to be inflammatory, the “itis” s...
BACKGROUND The effect of elbow medial ulnar collateral ligament injury on posteromedial compartment contact is unknown. HYPOTHESIS Medial ulnar collateral ligament injury causes altered contact area and pressure in the posteromedial compartment of the elbow. STUDY DESIGN Controlled laboratory study. METHODS Seven elbow cadaveric specimens were tested in an apparatus that positioned the el...
[Purpose] Elbow injury in male adult kendo players was investigated and examined in order to obtain an indicator of prophylaxis of injury. [Subjects and Methods] The subjects were 22 male adult kendo players aged 25 to 60 years old, and presence or absence of pain, range of motion, and muscle strength in the elbow joints were investigated. In addition, among athletes with limited range of motio...
Paediatric elbow dislocations are uncommon injuries, accounting for 3-6% of all elbow injuries in childhood. A divergent elbow dislocation is an even more infrequent injury, where in addition to the elbow dislocation there is divergence of the proximal radius and ulna, either in a transverse (extremely rare) or in an anteroposterior plane, as a result of the distal humerus being forced between ...
This study aimed to examine the relationships between muscle power output using the stretch-shortening cycle (SSC) and eccentric maximum strength under elbow flexion. Eighteen young adult males pulled up a constant light load (2 kg) by ballistic elbow flexion under the following two preliminary conditions: 1) the static relaxed muscle state (SR condition), and 2) using the SSC with countermovem...
Tennis elbow is a chronic inflammatory injury caused by the connection between humerus and tendon attachment point in elbow. Further in-depth research needed to cure tennis with extracorporeal shock waves. This article selects 400 patients who were recuperated at Southwest Medical University 2020 uses wave therapy ultrasound compare analyze visual analogue scale of pain positive rate traction c...
We report the case of a 19 year old man who received a gunshot wound to the soft tissues of his left elbow. He presented with an ischaemic hand due to transection of the brachial artery bifurcation anterior to the elbow joint. He was spared an associated median nerve injury by an anomalous course of the nerve through the antecubital fossa.
INTRODUCTION: Free functioning muscle transfers (FFMTs), nerve grafting and nerve transfers have led to improved functional outcomes in brachial plexus injury (BPI) patients. Reports have shown that 39% of FFMTs and 26% of nerve transfers for elbow flexion achieve ≥ M4 elbow flexion strength.1 However, there remains a substantial number of patients with less favorable functional outcomes that n...
