Comparative studies of characteristics Bessel and "perfect" vortex beams with a topological charge 9, created using binary silicon axicon "holographic" diamond continu-ous profile at wavelength 141 ?m, are carried out. Beams linear radial polarization investigated. An example the use perfect radially polarized beam for excitation plasmon-polaritons on cylindrical conductor is given.

Focusing properties of radially polarized Lorentz–Gauss beam with one on-axis optical vortex was investigated by vector diffraction theory. Results show that intensity distribution in the focal region can be altered considerably by charge number of the optical vortex and the beam parameters. Many novel focal patterns may occur, Such as Peak-centered, and other focal shapes which is potentially ...

Time-dependent creep analysis is crucial for the performance and reliability of piezoactuators used for high-precision positioning and load-bearing applications. In this study history of stresses, deformations and electric potential of hollow rotating cylinders made of functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM), e.g., PZT_7A have been investigated using Mendelson’s method of successive e...

The closed form of the complete far-field asymptotic series is provided for the scalar and electromagnetic monochromatic fields in free space whose angular spectrum is smooth over the sphere of directions. The first few terms of this series are also shown to give corrections to the Fraunhofer diffraction formula. The application of this series is illustrated with two examples corresponding to a...

A fast noninvasive method based on scattering from a focused radially polarized light to detect and localize subwavelength nanoparticles on a substrate is presented. The technique relies on polarization matching in the far field between scattered and spurious reflected fields. Results show a localization uncertainty of ≈10^{-4}λ^{2} is possible for a particle of area ≈λ^{2}/16. The effect of si...

We investigate the transmission of focused beams through single subwavelength holes in a silver film. We use radially and azimuthally polarized light, respectively, to excite higher order waveguide modes as well as to match the radial symmetry of the aperture geometry. Remarkably, the transmission properties can be described by a classical waveguide model even for thicknesses of the silver film...

We present experimental results on the intracavity generation of radially polarized light by incorporation of a polarization-selective mirror in a CO(2)-laser resonator. The selectivity is achieved with a simple binary dielectric diffraction grating etched in the backsurface of the mirror substrate. Very high polarization selectivity was achieved, and good agreement of simulation and experiment...

We propose a method for producing and controlling a radially polarized beam based on the lateral refraction of the TM 01 mode from a fiber after chemical etching of the cladding. Two aspects are studied: (1) the quality of the refracted beam as a function of the geometry of the etched segment, (2) the method of polarization control by a series of azimuthal detectors. The polarization is modifie...

It is noted that a surface layer of matter in contact with a sufficiently superEddington, radially combed photon flux typically attains a relativistic coasting state whereby the radiation does not accelerate the matter. Radiation that scatters off this layer is most likely to be observed along the velocity vector of the matter, where it would be strongly polarized. Subject headings: black hole ...

We investigate numerically and experimentally the spatial collapse dynamics and polarization stability of radially and azimuthally polarized vortex beams in pure Kerr medium. These beams are unstable to azimuthal modulation instabilities and break up into distinct collapsing filaments. The polarization of the filaments is primarily linear with weak circular components at the filaments' boundari...
