BACKGROUND Small pulmonary lesions with ground-glass opacity (GGO) are increasingly detected by CT; however, intraoperative localization of such lesions is difficult because these lesions are often invisible and nonpalpable. STUDY OBJECTIVES To localize and resect nonpalpable and invisible small pulmonary lesions, a new marking technique that we call "agar marking" was developed. METHODS AN...

To evaluate the diagnostic eff icacy of breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided needle localization and surgical biopsy for suspicious breast lesions occult on physical breast examination, mammography and second-look ultrasound. Twelve patients (age range, 29-68 years; mean 44.9±9.24 years) received breast MR-guided needle localization and surgical biopsy for the suspicious lesions detec...

Background and Aim: Consumption of the epidermis (COE) is defined as thinning of the epidermis with attenuation of the basal and suprabasal layers and loss of rete ridges in areas of direct contact with malignant melanocytes. The aim of this study was to investigate the importance of COE as an additional diagnostic criterion for malignant melanoma and to evaluate its relationship to clinicopath...

Eight patients with a histologically proven angiographically occult arteriovenous malformation of the brain had plain and infused computed tomographic (CT) examinations. In five cases angiography revealed a hypovascular mass and in three cases the angiogram was normal. On CT examination a high density lesion (six cases) and ventricular asymmetry (five cases) were demonstrated. In three patients...

We describe a 4-year-old Hispanic boy with a dermal pit and an overlying macular vascular malformation in the lumbosacral area. Magnetic resonance imaging of the region revealed an intraspinal lesion at L1-L2. A fibrous tract was excised. A benign lipoma intrinsic to the roots of the cauda equina was noted at surgery. The cutaneous stigmata of occult spinal dysraphisms are reviewed.
