Renal vascular anatomic variations, especially of the renal arteries, have been observed in about 20-30% of cases, which are very often verified in the left antimere. These variations showed two or three renal arteries stemming directly from the aorta. These anatomic variations have been considered extremely important risk factors in surgical proceedings by different authors. The dissection of ...
A retrospective analysis of 5 renal oncocytomas studied with CT was performed. Oncocytomas appeared as rounded hypodense solid masses with sharp margination from the normal renal parenchyma. They showed uniform homogeneous enhancement on CT scans performed after drip infusion of urographic contrast. One oncocytoma studied with dynamic CT scanning demonstrated a stellate (spoke-wheel) pattern of...
The gonadal arteries (testicular or ovarian arteries) emerge normally from the lateral aspect of the abdominal aorta, a little inferior to the renal arteries. Several other sites of origin of these arteries have been recorded with the renal and accessory renal arteries being the most common. In the present case report, the testicular arteries originated from the lower polar accessory renal arte...
To investigate the release of neuropeptide Y (NPY) from the pheochromocytomas, we studied the relationship between the plasma and tumor tissue immunoreactive (IR) NPY concentrations in 13 patients with pheochromocytoma and measured the IR-NPY concentration in plasma samples obtained by catheter from several veins (jugular veins, superior vena cava, renal veins, adrenal veins and inferior vena c...
OBJECTIVE Because renal venous variations possess potential hazards during abdominal aortic surgery or laparoscopic donor nephrectomy, the detailed preoperative evaluation of the renal vessels with angiography should be performed to avoid vascular injuries. We present multidetector row computed tomography (MDCT) findings of the retroaortic left renal vein (RLRV) with other vascular variations. ...
PURPOSE To evaluate recessed elliptical centric ordering of k-space in renal magnetic resonance (MR) angiography. METHODS All imaging was performed on the same 1.5 T MR imaging system (GE Signa CVi) using the body coil for signal transmission and a phased array coil for reception. Gd, 30 ml, was injected manually at 2 ml/sec timed with automatic triggering (SmartPrep). In thirty patients usin...
OBJECTIVE We report our experience with laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (LDN) in the setting of complex renal vasculature and critically analyze the technique and intermediate recipient outcomes. METHODS Thirty-nine living renal donors with multiple renal arteries or veins, or anomalous venous anatomy, who underwent LDN between 2003 and 2007 at our institution were retrospectively reviewed. De...
Pseudocysts of the pancreas, when large, can compress adjacent structures giving rise to a series of clinical symptoms and signs. We present a patient whose pseudocyst compressed the left renal and testicular veins, resulting in a left sided varicocoele. We can find no evidence of such a complication having been previously reported.
The occurrence of renal vein thrombosis in a case each of polyarteritis nodosa and the Henoch-Schoenlein syndrome is reported. It is suggested that obliteration of the arterioles that supply the walls of the veins may have initiated the venous thrombosis in these two cases.
