In this study, the biological properties of the replication-competent viruses, F-MuLVA, present in the anemia-inducing isolate of Friend leukemia virus complex (FV-A); and F-MuLVP, present in the polycythemia-inducing isolate of Friend leukemia virus complex (FV-P) have been examined. BALB/c mice infected as newborns with clonal isolates of F-MuLVA or F-MuLVP become anemic and show splenic enla...

Y-family DNA polymerases carry out translesion synthesis past damaged DNA. DNA polymerases (pol) eta and iota are usually uniformly distributed through the nucleus but accumulate in replication foci during S phase. DNA-damaging treatments result in an increase in S phase cells containing polymerase foci. Using photobleaching techniques, we show that poleta is highly mobile in human fibroblasts....

Most eukaryotic DNA replication is performed by A- and B-family DNA polymerases which possess a faithful polymerase activity that preferentially incorporates correct over incorrect nucleotides. Additionally, many replicative polymerases have an efficient 3'→5' exonuclease activity that excises misincorporated nucleotides. Together, these activities contribute to overall low polymerase error fre...

Although a fairly new topic in the context of cyber security, situation awareness (SA) has a far longer history of study and applications in such areas as control of complex enterprises and in conventional warfare. Far more is known about the SA in conventional military conflicts, or adversarial engagements, than in cyber ones. By exploring what is known about SA in conventional – also commonly...

Data Grid provides sharing services for very large data around the world. Data replication is one of the most effective approaches to reduce access latency and response time. In addition to the benefits, replication has costs such as storage and bandwidth consumption, especially when storage space is low and limited. Therefore,  the data replacement should be done wisely. In this p...

The aggregation of the amyloid β peptide (Aβ) into amyloid fibrils is a defining characteristic of Alzheimer's disease. Because of the complexity of this aggregation process, effective therapeutic inhibitors will need to target the specific microscopic steps that lead to the production of neurotoxic species. We introduce a strategy for generating fibril-specific antibodies that selectively supp...

This paper presents region-based a ne motion parameter clustering methods by motion-vector and intensity matching to provide improved robustness and alignment of motion boundaries with real object boundaries. Regions may be formed as xedor variable-size rectangular blocks, triangular patches, or arbitrary-shaped areas de ned by color or texture uniformity. A particular combination of these a ne...

We prove the existence of a solution to the degenerate parabolic Cauchy problem with a possibly unbounded Radon measure as an initial data. To accomplish this, we establish a priori estimates and derive a compactness result. We also show that the result is optimal in the Euclidian setting.
