In this study, we compared the ex vivo removal capacity of two endodontic rotary techniques and determined whether there was a significant quantitative difference in residual material when comparing root thirds. Forty extracted molars were used. The palatal roots were selected, and the canals were prepared using a step-back technique and filled using a lateral condensation technique with gutta-...
Retro-rectal cystic hamartoma (tailgut cyst), is an uncommon congenital developmental lesion, generally located in the retro-rectal space. Its diagnosis and approach is challenging because the retropelvic space is not familiar. We report a 51-year-old woman who presented with paresthesia and pain in perianal area. The magnetic resonance image showed high signal intensity on the T1-weighted imag...
Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has shown potential as a root-end filling material. This clinical case describes the successful treatment of a premolar with an open apex using MTA and the warm gutta-percha technique. The results suggested that MTA may be used as an apical filling material in permanent teeth with multiple canals.
Context Endodontic retreatment is performed in teeth with endodontic failures. The main goal of retreatment is cleaning and shaping of the root canal with removal of old root filling material. Hand instruments and rotary instruments are mainly used for removing this filling material. Aim of Study To compare the relative efficacy of three rotary instrumentation systems for removal of gutta-per...
The histologic response to intentional perforation in the furcations of 28 mandibular premolars in seven dogs was investigated. In half the teeth, the perforations were repaired immediately with either amalgam or mineral trioxide aggregate; in the rest the perforations were left open to salivary contamination before repair. All repaired perforations were left for 4 months before histologic exam...
INTRODUCTION The aim of this ex vivo study was to evaluate the removal of filling material after using CM-wire, M-wire, and nickel-titanium instruments in both reciprocating and rotary motions in curved canals. METHODS Thirty maxillary lateral incisors were divided into 9 groups according to retreatment procedures: Reciproc R25 followed by Mtwo 40/.04 and ProDesign Logic 50/.01 files; ProDesi...
Although the corrosion characteristics of dental amalgam have been of considerable interest to dental researchers, it has been difficult to identify the products which form in vivo. This report demonstrates that Sn4(OH)6Cl2 and SnO are formed in vivo and in vitro. The Sn-Cl product is the predominant phase formed by corrosion-induced changes of the Sn8Hg phase of amalgam. It is present in conve...
The results obtained after 18 months of clinical study, compa~ng sealant apph’cation for the prevention of caries with amalgam restorations on the pit and tissure surfaces of permanent molars, are analyzed to document the maintenance required for optimum success with both modes of treatment. An accurate summary of operating time used to accomplish each treatment is presented and various aspects...
The purposes of this in vivo study were to determine if placing a sealant over a glass ionomer restoration modifies its fluoride release, and to examine the effect on glass ionomer of a 4-min application of topical fluoride. Fluoride release from glass ionomer preventive resin restorations placed in 21 bovine teeth was measured before and after removing their sealants. Fuji II, Ketac Silver, an...
