Using energy-dispersive x-ray diffraction techniques together with the theory describing lattice strains under nonhydrostatic compression, the behavior of a layered sample of gold and rhenium has been studied at pressures of 14–37 GPa. For gold, the uniaxial stress component t is consistent with earlier studies and can be described by t50.0610.015P where P is the pressure in GPa. The estimated ...

With the recent interest on the theranostic approach, there has been a renewed interest for alternative radionuclides in nuclear medicine. They can be produced using common production routes, i.e., using protons accelerated by biomedical cyclotrons or neutrons produced in research reactors. However, in some cases, it can be more valuable to use deuterons as projectiles. In the case of Cu-64, sm...

Stable chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, manganese, rhenium, ruthenium, osmium, cobalt, rhodium, and iridium metal nanoparticles (M-NPs) have been reproducibly obtained by facile, rapid (3 min), and energy-saving 10 W microwave irradiation (MWI) under an argon atmosphere from their metal-carbonyl precursors [M(x)(CO)(y)] in the ionic liquid (IL) 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([BMI...

Semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides consist of monolayers held together by weak forces where the layers are electronically and vibrationally coupled. Isolated monolayers show changes in electronic structure and lattice vibration energies, including a transition from indirect to direct bandgap. Here we present a new member of the family, rhenium disulphide (ReS2), where such variatio...

Photocatalytic CO(2) reduction has been studied for two dyads with porphyrin covalently attached to rhenium tricarbonyl bipyridine moieties, and on separate components consisting of [Re(CO)(3)(Picoline)Bpy](+) and either zinc porphyrin or zinc chlorin. TONs decrease in the order: zinc porphyrin + Re > long spacer dyad > zinc chlorin + Re > short spacer dyad.

Preparation of a catalyst for the ethylene oxide production requires impregnation porous corundum support with an aqueous silver diamine oxalate complex solution, to which among others NH4[ReO4] is added. Here we report on [Ag(μ-en)][ReO4] that precipitates from such mixture. Single crystal structure analysis has revealed striking similarity [Ag(μ-en)]+ entity same cation encountered in [Ag(μ-e...

EXAFS measurements have been carried out on very small osmium and rhenium metal particles supported on MgO. The metal particles were formed via decornposition and subsequent reduction in hydrogen of metal carbonyl clusters.

The transition from fossil resources to renewable ones represents a pressing need. acidogenic fermentation of biomass-derived ethanol carboxylic acids novel and smart possibility, opening the way for production further value-added bio-products through cascade chemical approaches. In this work, hydrogenation commercial hexanoic acid give 1-hexanol/hexyl hexanoate mixtures was preliminary studied...

A loading-unloading-reloading strategy via atomistic simulations is proposed to reveal the strengthening mechanisms of rhenium in nickel-based superalloys at ambient temperature. Simulations reproduce experimentally observed increased flow stress with addition rhenium. Besides usual solid solution strengthening, two novel are uncovered. One that facilitates dislocation nucleation and, thus, inc...
