The flavor asymmetry of the polarized light sea, ∆ū −∆d̄, discriminates between different model calculations of helicity densities. We show that the chiral chromodielectric model, differently from models based on a 1/Nc expansion, predicts a small value for this asymmetry, what seems in agreement with preliminary HERMES data. 1. Following the discovery that the quark contribution to the spin of ...

Sensor networks are especially useful in catastrophic or emergency scenarios such as floods, fires, terrorist attacks or earthquakes where human participation may be too dangerous. However, such disaster scenarios pose an interesting design challenge since the sensor nodes used to collect and communicate data may themselves fail suddenly and unpredictably, resulting in the loss of valuable data...

The open N=2 string theory is defined on the four-dimensional space-time with split signature (+,+,-,-). field action of described by Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW_4) model. Equation motion WZW_4 model Yang equation which equivalent to anti-self-dual Yang-Mills equation. In this paper, we study soliton-type classical solutions in calculating density We find that one-soliton localized a three-dimensio...

We observe clamping of the output spatial light distribution of a waveguide array. Using a chirped pulse amplifier we reach peak intensities in the waveguides of ~24 GW/cm2. At this level, three photon absorption in the AlGaAs material clamps the discrete spatial soliton to a set distribution. Further increase in intensity does not change the distribution.

Kaon and pion coupling constants to hyperons are calculated in the bound-state approach to strangeness in the Skyrme-soliton model. The pion and kaon coupling constants are properly defined as matrix elements of source terms of the mesons sandwiched between two single-baryon states. Numerical calculation of the coupling constants shows that the bound-state approach well reproduce the empirical ...

We develop a robust and efficient method for soliton calculations for nonlinear Schrödinger equations. The method is based on the recently developed sparsifying preconditioner combined with Newton’s iterative method. The performance of the method is demonstrated by numerical examples of gap solitons in the context of nonlinear optics.

We introduce the concept of ring dark solitons in Bose-Einstein condensates. We show that relatively shallow rings are not subject to the snake instability, but a deeper ring splits into a robust ringlike cluster of vortex pairs, which performs oscillations in the radial and azimuthal directions, following the dynamics of the original ring soliton.

We reveal numerically the remarkably robust propagation of quasistationary two-color soliton clusters in media with competing quadratic and cubic nonlinearities. We predict that such clusters carrying nonzero angular momentum can propagate over any practically feasible crystal length before they decay, even in the presence of input random perturbations.

We calculate the F/D ratios of spin-nonflip baryon vertex for an arbitrary number of color degrees of freedom Nc both in the non-relativistic quark model with the SU(6) spin-flavor symmetry and in the chiral soliton model with SU(3) flavor symmetry. We find that the spin-nonflip F/D ratio tends to −1 in the limit of Nc → ∞. We show that this leading value F/D = −1 of spin-nonflip baryon vertex ...

We demonstrate a mid-infrared Raman-soliton continuum extending from 1.9 to 3 µm in a highly germanium-doped silica-clad fiber, pumped by a nanotube mode-locked thulium-doped fiber system, delivering 12 kW sub-picosecond pulses at 1.95 µm. This simple and robust source of light covers a portion of the atmospheric transmission window.
