This paper is motivated by a previous work of Fonda et al. 6 in which the authors studied the behavior of a periodically forced charged particle moving on a line in a field generated by one or two fixed charged particles of the same sign. This model corresponds to a scalar ordinary differential equation with one or two singularities, and by means of critical point theory or the Poincare Birkhof...

We investigate generalizations of the Burgers and Burgers-Huxley equations. The investigations we offer focus attention mainly on presenting explict analytical solutions by means of relating these generalized equations to relativistic 1 + 1 dimensional systems of scalar fields where topological solutions are known to play a role. Emphasis is given on chiral solutions, that is, on the possibilit...

An exact solution to the Friedmann equations with a string inspired phantom scalar matter field is constructed and the absence of the “Big Rip” singularity is shown explicitly. The notable features of the concerned model are a ghost sign of the kinetic term and a special polynomial form of the effective tachyon potential. The constructed solution is stable with respect to small fluctuations of ...

We present a new method to search for a light scalar top (stop), decaying dominantly into cχ̃0 1 , at the LHC. The principal idea is to exploit the Majorana nature of the gluino, leading to same-sign top quarks in events of gluino pair production followed by gluino decays into top and stop. We demonstrate the reach of our method in terms of the gluino mass and the stop–neutralino mass difference.

The paper is concerned with stabilization of a scalar delay differention equation ẋ(t)− m ∑ k=1 Ak(t)x[hk(t)] = 0, t ≥ 0, x(ξ) = φ(ξ), ξ < 0, by introducing impulses in certain moments of time x(τj) = Bjx(τj − 0), j = 1, 2, . . . . Explicit stability results are presented both for the equation with positive coefficients and for the equation with Ak being of arbitrary sign. Supported by Israel M...

For regression models with functional responses and scalar predictors, it is common for the number of predictors to be large. Despite this, few methods for variable selection exist for function-on-scalar models, and none account for the inherent correlation of residual curves in such models. By expanding the coefficient functions using a B-spline basis, we pose the function-on-scalar model as a...

Abstract In this article, we investigate the Cauchy problem for Klein-Gordon equations with combined power-type nonlinearities. Coefficients in nonlinearities depend on space variable. They are sign preserving functions except one of coefficients, which may change its sign. We study completely structure Nehari manifold. By using potential well method, give necessary and sufficient conditions no...

Comment on the paper: " Feynman-Schwinger representation approach to nonperturbative physics " by C ¸. S ¸avklı et al. Abstract We point out that the scalar Wick-Cutkosky model (with χ 2 φ interaction) used in this study has been known for a long time to be unstable. However, the numerical results presented in this paper do not show any sign of this instability which casts some doubt on their r...

We analyze the energy stability of the standard MUSCL scheme. The analysis is possible by reformulating the MUSCL scheme in the framework of summation-by-parts (SBP) operators including an artificial dissipation. The effect of different slope limiters is studied. It is found that all the slope limiters do not lead to the correct sign of the entries in the dissipation matrix. The implication of ...
