An E.P.R. study of small particles of silver in a benzene matrix has been performed between 8 K and 190 K. For particle sizes sufficiently small to exhibit the quantum size-effect (diameters ~ 10 A) we show that the susceptibility obeys a Curie-like law. This result is in agreement with theoretical predictions, and an estimate of the mean level spacing near the Fermi level has been deduced. LE ...

The antimicrobial activity of silver nanoparticles against E. coli was investigated as a model for Gram-negative bacteria. Bacteriological tests were performed in Luria-Bertani (LB) medium on solid agar plates and in liquid systems supplemented with different concentrations of nanosized silver particles. These particles were shown to be an effective bactericide. Scanning and transmission electr...

This paper describes a simple preparation of single-crystalline Ag-nanoparticles including plates, and wires in water by truncated triangular particles for the first time during the reduction of [Ag(NH₃)₂]⁺ complex with glucose at room temperature. Silver particles were characterized by means of the conventional transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV-VIS spectroscopy. Cetyltrimethylammon...

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesised by reducing silver salts using NaBH(4) followed by capping with varying concentrations of beta-cyclodextrin (beta-CD) and were physically characterised. Antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus was determined by a microtitre well method. The AgNPs were spherical under transmission electron mic...

We report on the laser ablation of composite prismatic structures using a vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) 157 nm F2 laser. Polycarbonate and CR-39 substrates have been intentionally seeded with silver wires and silicon carbide whiskers respectively. The seed particles remain attached to the underlying substrate after laser ablation, forming composite silver-polycarbonate and silicon carbide-CR-39 inte...

The influence of constitutive (Agl, lions) and nonconstitutive (Na+ ions) components of silver iodide hydrosols on the transformation rate of metaphasic silver iodide into crystalline silver iodide is studied. The simultaneous change of Agl, l ions, and Na+ ions concentrations causes a complex change of the value of the constant k, (which is proportional to the aggregation rate constant k 2). W...

A major challenge in nanoparticle self-assembly is programming the large-area organization of a single type of anisotropic nanoparticle into distinct superlattices with tunable packing efficiencies. Here we utilize nanoscale surface chemistry to direct the self-assembly of silver octahedra into three distinct two-dimensional plasmonic superlattices at a liquid/liquid interface. Systematically t...

A new method to prepare silver nanoparticles was reported in this paper, which based on aqueous-gaseous phase reaction of silver nitrate solution and ammonia gas. The proposed method is effective, rapid, and convenient. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to characterize the structure of the particles, respectively. It was found that the average diameter...

Silver sintering joints and AuGe soldering are promising technologies for high temperature (>200 C ambient) power electronics packaging. This paper presents the implementation of two silver-sintering processes with the one hand micrometer-scale silver particles, and on the other hand nano-meter-scale particles. Two substrates technologies have been investigated: A12O3 DBC and Si3N4 AMB. After t...
