Mechanical soft reduction (MSR) is an effective method for elimination of the centerline segregation and porosity continuous casting steel slab, amount a key parameter that determines whether MSR could be applied successfully. In present work, 2D heat transfer model was developed predicting non-uniform solidification wide-thick slab. The measured shell thickness by nail shooting experiment slab...

Using complex plane analysis we show that left-handed slab may support either leaky slab waves, which are backward because of negative refraction, or leaky surface waves, which are backward or forward depending on the propagation direction of the surface wave itself. Moreover, there is a general connection between the reflection coefficient of the left-handed slab and the one of the correspondi...

The structural system of prestressed concrete (PC) voided slab deck is intermediate between plate and girder. Therefore, the conventional design method is based on the assumption that the system is similar to the plate system or to the grid system. In this paper, the structural behavior of a continuous PC voided slab deck with three spans was analyzed by using the three dimensional solid finite...

Interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin discretisations (IPDG) and especially the symmetric variant (SIPG) for time-domain wave propagation problems are broadly accepted and widely used due to their advantageous properties. Linear systems with block structure arise by applying spacetime discretisations and reducing the global system to time-slab problems. The design of efficient and robust iter...

SUMMARY In this paper we look at Krylov subspace methods for solving the transport equations in a slab geometry. The spatial discretization scheme used is a nite element method called Modiied Linear Discontinuous scheme (MLD). We investigate the convergence rates for a number of Krylov subspace methods for this problem and compare with the results of a spatial multigrid scheme.

a mathematical model of a continuous reheating furnace has been developed to identify the design and operating parameters that significantly affect furnace performance. in this study, the furnace is modeled 3 dimensionally and themonte carlomethod is used to find the overall absorption factor. the overall absorption factor is then used to calculate the energy balance for furnace walls, the gas,...

introduction: the purpose of this study was to evaluate the morphologic surface of guttapercha cones after cutting with different methods. materials and methods: the apical 3 millimeters of forty standardized, gutta-percha cones size 40 were cut off using scissors or a scalpel against a glass slab. the samples were then examined under scanning electron microscopy (sem) for topographic deformit...

This thesis is concerned with the reflection and transmission properties of layered lefthanded materials (LHM). In particular, the reflection properties of (LHM) slabs are studied for the Goos-Hiinchen (GH) lateral shift phenomenon. We demonstrate a unique GH lateral shift phenomenon, which shows that both positive and negative shifts can be achieved using the same LHM slab configuration. This ...

The perceived lateral position of a transmitted beam, upon propagating through a slab made of homogeneous, isotropic, dielectric material at an oblique angle, can be controlled through varying the velocity of the slab. In particular, by judiciously selecting the slab velocity, the transmitted beam can emerge from the slab with no lateral shift in position. Thereby, a degree of concealment can b...
