the theory of natural movement was developed by hillier and hanson at 1984 and investigates the relation between social and spatial forms. hillier believes that space is the key aspect of how social and cultural worlds are made in the real world. hillier claims that social and spatial forms follow such a consistent pattern that spatial configuration determines social patterns such as land-use a...

Most modern analysis of social networks and social media assume a static network. The primary reasons for this are better parameter estimation and simpler inference. However, this assumption often results in very erroneous deductions, especially for local (e.g. user-level analysis). The aim of this project is to explore efficient ways to model the temporal variation of influence on social links...

We use Salem’s method [13, 14] to prove an inequality of Kwapień and Pełczyński concerning a lower bound for partial sums of series of bi-orthogonal vectors in a Hilbert space, or the dual vectors. This is applied to some lower bounds on L norms for orthogonal expansions.

It is well-known that for Hilbert space linear operators 0 ≤ A and 0 ≤ C, inequality C ≤ A does not imply C ≤ A. We introduce a strong order relation 0 ≤ B≪ A, which guarantees that C ≤ BAB for all 0 ≤ C ≤ B, and that C ≤ A when B commutes with A. Connections of this approach with the arithmetic-geometric mean inequality of Bhatia–Kittaneh as well as the Kantorovich constant of A are mentioned.

For a bounded linear operator A on a Hilbert space  , let ( ) M A be the smallest possible constant in the inequality ( ) ( ) ( ) p p D A M A R A ≤ . Here, p is a point on the smooth portion of the boundary ( ) W A ∂ of the numerical range of A. ( ) p R A is the radius of curvature of ( ) W A ∂ at this point and ( ) p D A is the distance from p to the spectrum of A. In this paper, we compute t...
