Laser-induced fluorescence imaging is a promising technique for assessing quality of fruit. This paper reports on using a hyperspectral laser-induced fluorescence imaging technique for measurement of laser-induced fluorescence from orange for predicting soluble solids content (SSC) of fruit. A laser (632 nm) was used as an excitation source for inducing fluorescence in oranges. Fluorescence sca...

the physical and physiological characteristics of sarawak pineapple were studied at five different stages of growth from one to five months after anthesis. changes in fruit length, diameter, pulp color, pulp firmness, ph, total soluble solids, titratable acidity, ascorbic acid content and antioxidant activity were monitored. the sarawak pineapple exhibited a sigmoid growth pattern during fruit ...

The effect of temperatures below 20 degrees C (20, 15 and 10 degrees C) on the anaerobic degradation pathway and kinetics of domestic wastewater fractionated at different sizes was studied in a fluidized-bed batch reactor. The overall degradation pathway was characterized by a soluble fraction degrading according to zero-order kinetics and a colloidal fraction (between 0.45 and 4.5 microm) that...

In order to evaluation the effects of mycorrhiza, plant growth promoting rhizobacteria and nano zinc oxide foliar application on effective traits at grain filing of triticale under soil salinity condition, a factorial experiment was conducted based on randomized complete block design with three replications in research greenhouse of Faculty of Agriculture Sciences, University of Mohaghegh Ardab...

With a mean precipitation rate, much lower than that of the world, Iran is among the countries that face severe water challenges. The present study has dealt with the evaluation of hydrochemistry of Faryab spring water in Hormozgan Province, Iran. Four different composite water samples have been analyzed to detect major anions, cations, total dissolved solids, electrical conductivity, pH, and s...

Salinity in the Colorado River Basin causes an estimated $300 to $400 million per year economic damages United States. To inform and improve salinity-control efforts, this study quantifies long-term trends salinity (dissolved solids) across Upper (UCRB), including time periods prior construction of large dams preceding implementation projects. Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge, Season was...

Corn bran was subjected to high-shear and jet-cooking with or without alkaline treatment. The highest antioxidant activity was found in the soluble solids from jet-cooked corn bran without alkaline treatment. Jet-cooking under alkaline conditions resulted in a soluble fraction having the highest phenolic content but without increasing antioxidant activity. Phenolic contents of soluble solids we...

Coastal aquaculture can contribute to eutrophication of receiving waters. New technologies and improved management practices allow the aquaculture industry to be more sustainable and economically viable. Current practices, however, do not provide an additional use for effluent water. Nitrogen, phosphorus and other effluent compounds could be valuable plant nutrients. Inflow and effluent water f...

In recent years, excessive use of chemical fertilizers and lack of organic fertilizers caused to reduce the rate of soil organic matter in Iran. The increased use of chemical fertilizers in agriculture causes environmental problems such as soil physical degradation and soil nutrient imbalances. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of foliar and soil applications of humic acid on ...

A nondestructive optical method for determining the soluble solids content of fresh whole tomatoes was investigated. The method, based upon near infrared spectrophotometric techniques, could predict the soluble solids content of tomatoes (r 5 0.92, SEC 5 0.277Brix). Tomatoes from more than 30 popular fresh market cultivars at stages of maturity from mature green to ripe red fruit were studied.
