This report summarizes the linear stability analysis of the DDE model of a neural network presented in [1]. The network is of Hopfield-type, and consists of two neurons. Following the method described in [1, 2, 8], we implemented linear stability analysis to determine the stability region of the stationary solutions, and simulations confirms the results of the linear stability analysis.

In this study we investigated the possible involvement of several amino acids (not located in the ligand-binding centre) in fatty acid binding and conformational stability of heart fatty acid-binding protein (H-FABP). We prepared recombinant human H-FABP proteins with mutations in the hydrophobic patch (Phe(4), Trp(8) and Phe(64)), portal region (Phe(16)), hinge region (Leu(66), Gly(67)), secon...

It is well known that a necessary condition for the Lax-stability of the method of lines is that the eigenvalues of the spatial discretization operator, scaled by the time step k, lie within a distance O(k) of the stability region of the time integration formula as k ~ O. In this paper we show that a necessary and sufficient condition for stability, except for an algebraic factor, is that the e...

Immediate predecessors of this work were a paper on two-dimensional deadbeat observers by Bisiacco and Valcher [Multidimens. Systems Signal Process., 19 (2008), pp. 287–306] and one on one-dimensional functional observers by Blumthaler [Linear Algebra Appl., 432 (2010), pp. 1560–1577] (compare also Fuhrmann’s comprehensive paper [Linear Algebra Appl., 428 (2008), pp. 44– 136]). The present pape...

Aims. We study the onset of orbital instability for a small object, identified as a planet, that is part of a stellar binary system with properties equivalent to the restricted three body problem. Methods. Our study is based on both analytical and numerical means and makes use of a rotating (synodic) coordinate system keeping both binary stars at rest. This allows us to define a constant of mot...

Site-directed mutagenesis was used to assess the contribution of individual residues and a bound calcium in the 55-69 region of the thermolysin-like protease of Bacillus stearothermophilus (TLP-ste) to thermal stability. The importance of the 55-69 region was reflected by finding that almost all mutations had drastic effects on stability. These effects (both stabilizing and destabilizing) were ...

In this paper numerical results are reviewed ([13]) that demonstrate that common second-order operator-splitting methods can exhibit instabilities when integrating the Brusselator equations out to moderate times of about seven periods of oscillation. These instabilities are manifested as high wave number spatial errors. In this paper we further analyze this problem and present a theorem for sta...

Stability region of random access wireless networks is known for only simple network scenarios. The main problem in this respect is due to interaction among queues. When transmission probabilities during successive transmissions change, e.g., when exponential backoff mechanism is exploited, the interactions in the network are stimulated. In this paper, we derive the stability region of a buffer...

Two‐wheeled mobile robots (TWMRs) have a capability of avoiding the tip‐over problem on inclined terrain by adjusting the centre of mass position of the robot body. The effects of terrain inclination on the robot performance are studied to exploit this capability. Prior to the real‐time implementation of position control, an estimation of the stability region ...

Thermal stability was measured for variants of cytochrome c-551 (PA c-551) from a mesophile, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and a thermophilic counterpart, Hydrogenobacter thermophilus cytochrome c-552 (HT c-552), by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) at pH 3.6. The mutated residues in PA c-551, selected with reference to the corresponding residues in HT c-552, were located in three spatially sep...
