Laser action on a single spatially chaotic wave function is obtained as a final stable state in a nonlinear dynamical model of a stadium shaped resonant cavity with an active medium. The stable single-mode lasing state corresponds to a particular metastable resonance of the cavity which wins a competition among multiple modes with positive net linear gain and has a distinct lasing threshold.

We show how to construct symbolic dynamics for the class of 2d-dimensional twist mappings generated by piecewise strictly convex/concave generating functions. The method is constructive and gives an eecient way to nd all periodic orbits of these high dimensional symplectic mappings. It is illustrated with the cardioid and the stadium billiard.

In this poster we outline our framework for the analysis of crowds in different settings (city centres, sports events, etc.) and situations (regular or extreme). The framework has a monitor, a model and an intervene component to evaluate a number of strategies for risk and damage mitigation measures. This is illustrated with an example of a crowd at a football stadium.

The last stadium larva of Microgomphus thailandica is described, illustrated and compared with the larvae of congeneric species based on reared specimens collected from the Phachi headwater stream, Ratchaburi province, Thailand. Numerical calculations studying bound eigenstates in chaotic regions of phase space, including those of the stadium billiard, are summarized. These calculations demonstrate that the scars of periodic orbit model is seriously flawed. An alternative picture of localization in chaotic regions is outlined.
