MR images typically have poorer resolution in the slice-selection direction than the in-plane directions. In this work, we adopt an MAP super-resolution method to reconstruct a high-resolution image from two orthogonal scans of the same subject. The new image shows improved SNR and has a resolution that approximates the original in-plane resolution in all directions. Experimental results on bot...

In this paper we consider a portfolio optimization problem on maximizing the geometric mean return subject to the lower semivariance as a risk measure in the financial engineering. Its optimal condition and the solving method via the Monte Carlo simulation are given, and a numerical experiment is presented in order to show that the method is efficient. © 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd. We present an algorithm to approximate the solutions to variational problems where set of admissible functions consists of convex functions. The main motivation behind the numerical method is to compute solutions to Adverse Selection problems within a Principal-Agent framework. Problems such as product lines design, optimal taxation, structured derivatives design, etc. can be studied through th...

This paper is about dotted representations of efficient frontiers. Dotted representations, as in portfolio selection, can often be the most practical way of communicating an efficient frontier. The most popular method is to minimize variance subject to fixed levels of expected ∗Corresponding author [email protected]

Partitioned cross-validation is proposed as a method for overcoming the large amounts of across sample variability to which ordinary cross-validation is subject. The price for cutting down on the sample noise is that a type of bias is introduced. A theory is presented for optimal trade-off of this variance and bias. Comparison with other bandwidth selection methods is given.

In this paper, the problem of configuration selection i.e. sensor/actuator placement for piecewise affine (PWA) systems subject to both sensor and actuator faults is considered. A method is proposed that provides a tool for the design phase to decide about the optimal placement of sensor/actuators where the reconfigurability of the system subject to sensor and actuator faults is also taken into...

This study aimed to provide a simple way to approach group differences by independent component analysis when researching functional connectivity changes of resting-state network in brain disorders. We used baseline resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging from the Alzheimer's disease neuroimaging initiative dataset and performed independent component analysis based on different kind...
