Altogether 20 groundwater samples were collected around the Lakan Pb and Zn mine in Iran. Samples were analyzed for 8 constituents including Fe, Pb, Hg, Mn, Zn, CN, SO4 and Cl using standard method. The results show that the average concentrations of constituents were 0.01, 0.60, 0.10, 0.01, 0.40, 35, 0.01 and 5.95 mg/kg for Fe, Mn, Pb, Zn, Hg, SO4, CN and Cl, respectively. The computed contami...

The Athabasca oil sands deposit is the largest reservoir of crude bitumen in the world. Recently, the soaring demand for oil and the availability of modern bitumen extraction technology have heightened exploitation of this reservoir and the potential unintended consequences of pollution in the Athabasca River. The main objective of the present study was to evaluate the potential impacts of oil ...

Here we describe microarray expression data (raw and normalized), experimental metadata, and gene-level data with expression statistics from Saccharomyces cerevisiae exposed to simulated asbestos mine drainage from the Vermont Asbestos Group (VAG) Mine on Belvidere Mountain in northern Vermont, USA. For nearly 100 years (between the late 1890s and 1993), chrysotile asbestos fibers were extracte...

At the Bonfim mine, cyanide processing used to extract gold from abandoned tailings represents an important environmental concern. In order to evaluate cyanide concentrations, twenty samples of sediments of the main streams crossing the mine site, and ten samples of the five mainly tailings were analyzed for total cyanide. Cyanide was found in two samples of tailings (0.83 and 1.44mg/Kg of tota...

Compost-assisted phytostabilization has recently emerged as a robust alternative for reclamation of metalliferous mine tailings. Previous studies suggest that root-associated microbes may be important for facilitating plant establishment on the tailings, yet little is known about the long-term dynamics of microbial communities during reclamation. A mechanistic understanding of microbial communi...

It is difficult to obtain reliable shear strength parameters for the stability analysis and evaluation of tailings dams in an unstable state. In this study, sensitivity index safety factor a dam was evaluated. The cohesion C range earth rock state determined by factor, Morgenstern–Price method used inversion. During parameter inversion, uncertainty reasoning established based on cloud theory, w...

The Lechang lead/zinc (Pb/Zn) mine and Dabao Shan copper (Cu) mine are located at the north of Guangdong Province in southern China. The residual tailings were permanently stored in tailings ponds which required revegetation to reduce their impact on the environment. A greenhouse study was conducted to evaluate the feasibility of using Vetiveria zizanioides (vetiver) and Phragmities australis (...

Mining and ore processing activities are associated with changes in the surrounding environment and may pose a risk to human health, if adequate safety measures are not taken. The uranium ore generally varies worldwide between 0.03 – 3% U3O8, except for a few deposits where higher levels of uranium is reported. More than 95% of the ore is converted into waste material called “tailings”. Around ...

Abstract Based on research carried out at 67 tailings dams in Spain: (1) contain alternating sedimentary layers with contractive and dilative geomechanical behaviours; (2) saturate quickly but drain more than 10 times slower due to the high-suction capacity of porous sediments (2–300 MPa); (3) over long-term, a stationary flow regime is attained within basin. Four temporal spatial conditions mu...

There is a lack of information on the extent mineral extraction by plants from wastewater in arid and semi-arid environments developing countries. This research assesses performance Alhagi Mallow plant species for absorption heavy metals around tailings dam copper mine Iran. The industrial , known as pulp, site has different concentrations metals. In laboratory setting were cultivated irrigated...
